About Elysium Deilbhín Maisiúil

Is deilbhín maisiúil é Elysium a thaispeánann eáinín cromán ag ól neachtar as bláth. Tá an deilbhín déanta as airgead agus socraithe le 1848 seod-chlocha saotharlainn-fáiscte. Tá 31 páirt uathúil in Elysium agus tomhaiseann sé 116 mm ar 116 mm ar 165 mm. Baineadh úsáid as sreabhadh oibre ríomhairaithe, priontáil trí-thoiseach agus modh teilgcháin dhírigh paitinnithe chun sliogán folamh a chruthú le tiús miotail de 0.35 mm. Buaileann an t-éan leis an ngas ag pointe amháin, mar sin ríomhadh lárionad an mhaise go cúramach. Léiríonn an gas criosanna scriosta le slacht dubh, ag cur i gcuimhne dúinn cothromaíocht leochaileach an dúlra.

Unique Properties
The main purpose of the project is to show the perspectives of lab-grown diamonds and 3D printing in the sphere of luxury jewelry. It shows a hummingbird drinking nectar as a symbol of nature and its balance. The stand, on the other hand, has zones of destruction with a dramatic black finish and looks as if it might break any minute. The question is, how long will the flower last, keeping its balance with the stem and feeding the bird on its nectar?

Production Technology
The figurine was modelled using mathematical computations and a fully computerised workflow. It consists of 31 unique parts.

To realize the project, a 3D printer was upgraded with its resolution increased up to 5 microns.

The patented technology of direct casting enabled accurate shape geometry and plasticity, and allowed to create an item with the thickness of metal at 0.35mm.

This model is made of silver with lab-grown gemstones. The total weight including the ballast is 110 grams.

Design trivia — the figurine of the bird has only one point of contact with the stem.
Design Challenge
One of the tasks of the project was to demonstrate the possibility of a technology that significantly saves precious metal and allows to realize the forms created by the designer. This is an example of how designer invented technology to implement his ideas, rather than adjusting to the limitations of existing technology.
Research
Our goal was to create the shell that is unlimited in design and to significantly reduce the amount of precious material that we used for the project. We were able to modify the traditional approach to jewelry-making process and create something brand-new. The figure, printed with an accuracy of 10 microns and a shell thickness of 0.35 mm, is a demonstration of the possibilities of our patented technology. It’s hollow, it’s 3-d printed using burned materials, and it’s produced with the help of direct casting. The project took more than 2 years to complete.
Inspiration
The design is a call out to people who love art, humanity and the world. A hummingbird has become the symbol of the brand’s way of thinking — it is as light as hollow jewelry and as fragile as the planet’s health.
Project Duration
The project started in 2018 and was completed in August 2019. In September 2019 it was presented at the Vicenzaoro International Jewelry Show - Vicenzaoro
Operation Flow
One of the difficult engineering tasks was to determine the center of mass of the composition. To achieve realistic bird flight, only one connection point had to be created between the hummingbird and the flower stem. The collapsed stem construction (in the silver figurine) adds the fragility of this balance.
