About Cavalletta Stòl Àrd
'S e stòl àrd a th' ann an Cavalletta a chaidh a dhealbhachadh airson cleachdadh dachaigheil is malairteach ann am bàraichean agus balbhanaichean cidsin. Tha e freagarrach airson diofar àirdean bhalbhana agus stoidhlean sgeadachaidh. Tha an suidheachan fiodha aige air a shnaidheadh le CNC ann an cumadh eargonomach gus comhfhurtachd a leasachadh. 'S e feart eile a tha air a chomharrachadh anns a' phròiseact seo bòidhchead an fhiodha nàdarra oir tha an teachdaiche ainmeil airson a thoraidhean fiodha àrd-inbhe. Tha dealbhachadh iomlan stòl Cavalletta a' cur cuideam air aotromachd, stoidhle co-aimsireil agus comhfhurtachd.

- Unique Properties
- The Cavalletta stool is unique because of its sculpted solid wood seat and its contemporary and visually light structure. The stool is made of Jequitibá wood in a traditional wood shop, except for its seat witch is CNC sculpted into an ergonomic shape for maximum comfort and a organic look. It is suitable for different balcony heights. The beauty of the natural wood is another feature that is highlighted in this project. The overall design invokes lightness, urban style and comfort.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- 430 x 530 x 760 / package is unitary / Not stackable / Weight is 8Kg

- Production Technology
- The product is produced in natural solid wood (brazilian jequitibá). The seat is CNC sculpted and the frame is made using traditional woodworking technics.
- Design Challenge
- The main challenge of this project was to develop the seat to its final shape. There was a large ergonomics research to find the ideal measurements to the seat to start modeling the shape in the 3D software. 3 seats prototypes were made for confort tests before the final full prototype was constructed. It was necessary to reach a balance between comfort, aesthetics and cost of production. The final result was a modern yet organic shape that contrasts with the very angled and skinny frame.
- Research
- For this project the research was basically for ergonomics studies and comfort tests. As the seat primal form was designed a prototype was made for comfort tests and the employees of the factory helped by testing that prototype and giving their feedback. Other two seat prototypes were made to better adjust the functionality and the cost of production as the seat.
- Inspiration
- This project began by request of the client, a company with a tradition of making contemporary wood furniture. They needed a high stool for its collection but that was the only briefing received from them.
The design of the Cavalletta stool began by its seat. The sculpted seat was designed using the contorn of the human body as starting point. The side view was then defined, shaping the thin and angled legs that gave the stool its name (cavalletta is grasshopper in italian). The final structure was developed following the lightness proposition, using traditional woodworking joints and technics. - Project Duration
- This project took about one year since the first sketches until the final prototype was made. As all the prototypes were done inhouse by the client it was a very fast process of testing design options, reviewing and redesigning.
- Operation Flow
- The stool is pre assembled and does not require any assemblage action from user.
As a light product, the interaction (moving, rotating, cleaning) is very easy. User can grab it by its seat or its legs to lift it.
It is not a rotary stool but as it has no side or back restrains it's access is very easy even in tight spaces. - Image Credits
