Tha an saoghal ceangailte againn ag iarraidh gun bi sinn beò gu luath agus gu h-èifeachdach. Sin as coireach gur e fìor shògh an latha an-diugh an comas slaodadh sìos, ùine a ghabhail agus a bhith air do chuairteachadh le rudan brèagha a chaidh a dhèanamh le cùram agus le spèis don àrainneachd. Tha am bòrd-cofaidh seo le ìomhaigh-snaidhte de bheinn air a mhullach a' dùsgadh bàrdachd nan fàire gun chrìoch agus a' cur an neach-amhairc ann an staid mheòrachail. - Production Technology
- The table top is entirely made by hand in my workshop. As I carve the mountain part by hand, each table is therefore unique. I use carving tools such as carving discs, rasps, gouges, etc.
The leg is made by a metalworker.
Three coats of oil-based finish are applied on the top. - Design Challenge
- The biggest challenge on this project was ultimately to accept the idea of conceding a part of practicality for a more contemplative and poetic part. I like to say that on this table, there is a place to put your cup and a place to look at.
This table bridges the gap between art, craft and design. - Research
- There is a real challenge in carving large pieces of wood and believing that the table is made from a single piece of wood.
Illusion must be mastered in order to forget technique in favor of poetry.
Wood is a living material and all the woodworker skills are required to build a durable and sustainable product. - Inspiration
- Traditionally, the cabinetmaker covered a piece of furniture made by a carpenter with marquetry of noble and rare materials to give it value. Today, with globalization, these materials are losing their preciousness and uniqueness. The question was : "What value can I add to furniture today?" The answer came from looking at a beautiful landscape and figuring out how to bring it home. I began with wall sculptures of mountains and then desire to see it as central element on furniture.
- Project Duration
- The first carved landscape I carved was in 2015 when I came back to France after 5 years in Canada. The first Mountain table appears in 2017 with a small relief part and then the mountain ranges never stopped growing and they now take a central part on this deisgn.
- Operation Flow
- The goal is to have the impression that the mountain is litterally coming out of the table. The experience is not only visual, in fact, wood is a tactile material and the carved part is not fragile and can be touched without problem.
