Texto do Libro: Herringbone é unha mesa de comedor inspirada na estrutura das follas e no obxectivo de eliminar o superfluo. A estrutura interna permanece visible, e a silueta sinxela está totalmente exposta. A mesa está feita de madeira maciza americana certificada cun acabado de aceite natural, e mide 2500 por 1000 por 750 milímetros. Empréganse técnicas tradicionais de carpintaría e a habilidade de mestres artesáns, coa menor cantidade de cola posible. As dúas grandes táboas superiores están conformadas á man. A mesa pódese desmontar en tres pezas, aínda que se comporta como unha soa peza.

Propiedades Únicas: Table Herringbone designed by Alexandre Caldas is Inspired by the structure of leaves and by the desire to eliminate what is superfluous, the internal structure of the table and its simple and beautiful silhouette is all exposed to the lovers of this type of construction. Using certified solid wood, using the least amount of glue possible, using one of the world's most recycled resources (glass), and all this with only the know-how of master craftsmen with traditional woodworking techniques, accomplish the mission perfectly. Tecnoloxía de Produción: This piece was made utilizing only certified wood, and using only the know-how of the master craftsmen. It was made with only the most traditional techniques of woodworking in a simple way. Just Perfect.
Reto de Deseño: The simplicity of the piece had no great technological challenges since it was designed to be built with the most basic woodworking tools. However, the fixation of the stringers that join the two parts , had to be made specifically for this model because there is nothing on the market capable of doing the job . The two large table tops are hand sculptured to take their final shape.
Investigación: to find the limit of the materials in order to have a piece that was elegant but resistant at the same time. Knowing that the choice of wood to be used would also define its strength, we started with a prototype in pine just to consolidate proportions, and then, in the production of the first piece already in American walnut, we gradually removed the excess in thickness while maintaining a good reliability in construction. This table is dismountable in 3 parts but its resistance and plasticity behave as if it were a single piece .
Inspiración: The inspirational muse and the starting point for any design was always sought around the tree, however, this time also in a perspective of looking at the tree and the possibility of reducing the use of its resources. In this logic the structure of the leaves (Herringbone) and the elimination of what is superfluous, left to show the whole internal structure and with it its simple and beautiful silhouette.
Duración do Proxecto: This project started in January 2021 in Lisbon with the first sketches on paper, then moved to the 3D creation phase for general visualization, followed by Maketa in pine wood. The project was completed in September 2022 with the design of the first piece in American Walnut .
Fluxo de Operacións: It is a simple and clearly honest object , what you see is what is . It presents no interaction mechanisms and it is meant to be appreciated in its simplicity .
