- Echoing with the theme of the International Horticultural Exposition 2024, 'Beautiful Life in the Park City,' the Hong Kong Pavilion design is a symphonic spatial representation of the city's attributes. The hub of space captures the essence of Hong Kong's urban fabric, mountain ridges, wetlands, the harbour front night views, the traditional bamboo scaffolding techniques, and the geographical context that define this region.
- Nā Ana a me ka Hoʻopili
- The entire site area is approximately 1,500m2. The main supporting structure of Pavilion is made of bamboo steel, a new engineered construction material.

- The major material used for the Pavilion structure is an engineered bamboo locally sourced in Chengdu, a pioneering low-carbon material, in collaboration with Sichuan Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. to promote carbon-neutral building practices. The bamboo scaffolding techniques of Hong Kong, which is one of the intangible cultural heritage, is adopted to create a light-weighted form of the mass.
- Pilikia Hoʻolālā
- Traditional bamboo used for scaffolding are less durable and vulnerable to strong wind and erosion. The locally sourced Bamboo Steel enhances construction timelines and supports carbon neutrality goals. It reduces carbon emissions, requires minimal maintenance, and absorbs carbon dioxide and pollutants. Its ease of disassembly, adaptability to various climates, resistance to deformation in humid conditions, and high resilience to impact loads make it an ideal choice for building outdoor structures, ensuring superior seismic resistance and structural integrity.
- Noiʻi
- The engineered Bamboo Steel is an advanced composite material derived from bamboo, originating from Sichuan, China. This innovative material utilizes pure natural bamboo, which is bonded with eco-friendly phenolic resin along the fibre directions through hot or cold pressing techniques. It exhibits steel-like hardness, exceptional strength, low carbon footprint, and environmental sustainability. Additionally, it boasts high resistance to weather conditions, flame retardancy, air purification properties, and an extended lifespan performances.
- Hoʻoulu Manaʻo
- Inspired by the famous sceneries and cultural elements of Hong Kong, the Pavilion showcases the silhouette of Lion Rock Mountain ridges and bamboo scaffolding techniques. The shallow pool and boat sculptures represent the views of Victoria Harbour. The planting arrangements are coordinated according to the ecological characteristics of local habitats in various districts of Hong Kong. Bird cages with seats and neon light street signage are also added along the pathways to engage the visitors.

- The Pavilion is designed to blend in with its surrounding gardens and meandering pathways that invite visitors to explore and discover the multi-faceted beauty of Hong Kong. Vibrant colours and distinct form of plant species are selected to provide an enriched rambling experience and visual appreciation along the pathways. Diversified themes, including the butterfly garden, edible garden and wetland garden, are introduced to symbolize the biodiversity of Hong Kong habitats.
