He noho lāʻau paʻa ʻo Nina & Beni i hoʻoulu ʻia e nā kino o nā hale waʻa lāʻau. ʻElua ʻāpana lāʻau i piʻo ʻia me ka mahu e kau kaulele ana ma luna o ka noho, e lawelawe mua ana ma ke ʻano he mau wāwae, a laila he mau kahi hoʻomaha lima, a i ka hopena e hoʻopiʻo ana i ka wahi o ke kua haʻahaʻa. Hana ʻia ka noho me ka lāʻau ash, cherry, oak a i ʻole walnut mai nā ululāʻau i mālama pono ʻia, a hoʻopau ʻia me nā ʻaila a me nā pilali kūlohelohe. Unique Properties: Two steam-bent strips cantilever over the seat to serve first as legs then armrest and finally mold to the lumbar area. The Nina & Beni chair is made from 100% sustainably sourced forests.

Production Technology: To achieve the complex geometry of the Nina & beni chair we use a 5 axis CNC to cut 2 molds which we then use to steam bend the solid wood strips to their form. We then use another set of cnc-cut counter molds to make the 3d lamination.
Design Challenge: The most difficult part was designing and building the 3 dimensional molds needed to build the chair.
Research: Sustainability is my design objective.
I use wood because it is the best short carbon cycle material, the complex shapes are steam-bent so as to create as little waste as possible.
These pieces are made from quality materials and designed to last a lifetime.
Inspiration: Inspired by the efficient yet beautiful forms of wooden naval structures. Boat building achieves aerodynamic forms that take advantage of the trees grain with little waste.
Project Duration: This project started in September 2019, was exhibited at The Stockholm Furniture fair in January then at the London design fair in September
Operation Flow: Solid wood chair meant to last a lifetime
Seat is removable and interchangeable.
