Production Technology
The project applies natural wood veneer, stone-grained tiles, and eco-friendly coatings. Mineral-based paints and wear-resistant floors enhance durability. Technically, partition demolition, furniture repositioning, integrated storage, and concealed utility systems optimize light penetration, usability, and maintain visual clarity across compact spaces.
Design Challenge
Key challenges were limited natural light, complex utility lines, and compact space. Solutions included partial wall removal, overhauling electrical/HVAC systems, and integrating full-height storage. Balancing functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability within a constrained, aged structure required careful planning and technical precision.
Research
Research Type: Residential renovation study. Objectives: Improve light, usability, and aesthetics in a 33-year-old home. Methodology: Spatial analysis, light study, material evaluation. Tools: CAD, 3D modeling, material samples. Participants: Homeowners and design team. Results: Enhanced light penetration, functional layout, sustainable material use. Insights: Old residences can be revitalized efficiently, improving comfort and environmental impact.
Inspiration
The design is inspired by the concept of "rebirth of an old residence," translating accumulated memories and daily life warmth into spatial stories. By using natural materials and leveraging light interactions, the space expresses unique atmospheres at different times of day and across seasons, allowing dynamic charm to emerge continuously.
Project Duration
The project started in January 2025 and finished in June 2025 in Taiwan, China.
Operation Flow
The layout promotes smooth circulation by connecting living, dining, and kitchen areas. Furniture positioning and partial wall removal allow natural light to reach deep spaces. Full-height and multifunctional storage adapts to users' needs while maintaining visual consistency. Spaces transform seamlessly for daily living, social interaction, and flexible usage.
