Interview with Elham Mirzapour

Designer of the Day Interview

26 February 2020

I’ve studied Industrial Design at the University. Prior to my studies, I also was engaged in various fields of art such as painting, photography and music. I have always been interested in design and I was eager to learn it academically to choose it as my carrier. That's why I studied Industrial Design at university and it made my life more enjoyable.

I was interested in this field and I tried to expand my design activities and experiences so that currently design is large part of my life.

I have never been restricted to technique and the use of different techniques has always fascinated me.

Creating is always beautiful. When a design process is initiated, it has its own challenges. Along the process, I feel satisfied when I look back and see how my ideas are matured.

I believe that some of my personal habits and interests have played a significant role in my career. For example, I have been interested in collections for many years and collecting them and watching them has influenced me. In addition, activities in other fields of art and direct contact with various materials have not been ineffective.

Gaining a variety of experiences in various fields of art and studying modern science and technology alongside design and experience. I plan to reach an influential position in design in the future.

passionate and purposeful design and gaining as much experience and knowledge as possible.

I suggest experiencing and paying attention to the meaning and taking a deep look at the phenomena and details of life. Loving the activity and studying with care and diligence has always led us to success in every field.

My days are usually different. But I always have some routine in my daily life, such as reading books, reading newspapers and electronic journals and websites to keep up with the latest science and technology and design news in the world. I take care of my flowers and do work projects as well.

I always try to keep up with the latest developments in my work through reading and seeing new products and concepts. I believe, every designer should be aware and up-to-date, because I think that all design companies, while being creative and unique, always try to have an aura of features and attributes of that era, which is a collective, global behavior. You have to be aware of this for better design.

I believe, good design happens when there is simplicity, attractiveness, creativity and usefulness in a product. Our definition of good design in each product is different than the other. For example, in one product, just a simple and minor change in its redesign process may be excellent and sufficient, but in another product our definition of good design would include major and fundamental changes that influence and change all the perceptions of the audience.

I consider many sections for each of my projects; then for each of these sections, I consider various challenges and questions which in turn I try to answer each of these sections. In the process of designing, I may go back to a section over and over again and ask myself whether this satisfies me or not. Is this what I was looking for? If the answer is yes, I would put a green tick for confirmation and do the same for other sections as long as no questions is remained.

All my projects have been satisfying and meaningful at a specific time.

There are many designers that I admire a feature of them. For example, I might like perspective of one designer and style and discipline in another.

Daily studying about new science and technologies and seeing new designs and gaining experience in different activities is a part of my life. The culture and environment in which we live, whether we want it or not, influences us. For example, in my country, social conditions always forced us to face different challenges and constraints since childhood and this has affected my way of thinking. For example, it has made it easier for me to face design constraints and seek answers, which leads to less pressure on me during the project.

I believe in teamwork and prefer it individual work. High precision and focus and discipline is a must in design. I believe, if we spend 100% of our ability in doing something, we will achieve the desired result.

As far as possible I try to share the new experiences I get with my new colleague and always encourage them to work harder.

It was interesting to me that my design is going to be compared with many other designers' products. This increased my precision and effort and made me examine my product from different perspectives.

Design Legend Interview

26 February 2020

I I’ve studied Industrial Design at the University. Prior to my studies, I also was engaged in various fields of art such as painting, photography and music. I have always been interested in design and I was eager to learn it academically to choose it as my carrier. That's why I studied Industrial Design at university and it made my life more enjoyable.

I enjoy creating and creation of ideas that haven't existed before makes me motivated.

I have chosen this field for my university education as well as my future career with interest and awareness.

I really love product design and in the meantime, designing furniture and digital appliances and paying attention to the technology is of particular importance to me.

Studying and paying close attention to work, perseverance and having a clear plan for life's goals can always be fruitful.

It is exactly the same difference between a popular sports celebrity and a sports champion. Great designer and the products s/he creates are like an everlasting hero.

I think, there are a number of factors for each product and if you consider them, you’re going to have a really good design. But sometimes the designer goes beyond these factors in which the presented design engages the audience like an exciting surprise. I believe in that case it would be really good design.

Good design is in fact a perfect design. Good design enhances human quality of life.

There are many answers this question. In general, I enjoy designing things that solves a problem for people and makes the world more beautiful.

My dream project is to design a space ship.

I think it nothing except precision and perseverance.

I am very interested in studying as well as experience in designing. Throughout the history of design, I have read about and identified many people and movements and styles. Many people and movements have influenced me in the meantime. Dieter Rams as a great designer and Memphis style as an event in the 80's have been very influential.

There are many designs that I am interested in. Modernity and minimalism is what they have in common is.

Almost all the projects I've done to date are of equal value to me, because I've spent a lot of time on each one of them and they all look like children to me.

Study and knowledge of the modern technologies and continual review of what I have learned so far and using them in my designs.

I would go for Plan B. I would be a designer! I love design and I was born for it.

Design has broad meanings and a complex definition, but overall, I think creating any value that solves a problem and leads to more beautiful world is a good design.

Given my personality, I have always tried to meet my own challenges and keep moving forward. In fact, I can't address a specific person regarding this question since I believe good design is a set of teamwork, and in the meantime I've come across a variety of different people, each of whom has somehow been influential.

Intensive study of new science and technologies in the world and gaining work experience.

Challenges are natural. What is important is how to face and deal with them. Personally, since I had a dream of becoming a designer, I always made the decision to fulfill it. Proper planning put me on the right path and removed any possible problems.

Good presentation of a design is one of the important parts of design. A designer must know how to convey his design to the audience in the best way possible. An interesting and fascinating as well as clever presentation multiplies the chances of being seen and enhances the influence of a design.

Many projects will soon be released in which modern and good design as well as the use of technology is what they have in common.

My goal is to reach a point where my products make a history.

Commitment to ethics and giving value to people is expected from a designer and every human doing any other profession.

Design can enhance society if it encompasses ethical concerns and considers an approach to optimize consumption and respects the environment. There are some successful examples of design in history where the designer has promoted the literacy and awareness of the community as well.

Each of my work has had its own experiences and emotions and I can't choose between them.

My first project. Maybe because it was my first project!

It is clear is that dissatisfaction about the status quo and dissatisfaction of the designer () causes the designer to create new value. Of course, if the world were convinced of cars and planes many years ago, it would never have stepped on the moon. As a designer, I wish to increase respect for nature and the environment and for humans in the future, along with all the developments of industry and humanity.

Continuously everything is growing and maturing and moving from one stage to another and design is no exception. This question cannot be answered definitively, but it seems to me that technology has a significant role in the maturation and determining the future of design.

The time issue in designing varies depending on each project. Some of them require a longer study and research process.

My design projects is always initiated with dedicated study and research in that area, and it will continue in the next steps until the project is over.

Paying attention to the environment and events. The designer should not isolate himself from society and people and s/he must be aware of environmental issues. Studying the science is complementary to this principle.

I believe, design sets the trend, and in turn, it makes the design more mature. In fact, the designer who is exposed to the current trends (whether conscious or unconscious) is consciously designing a new trend. This new trend lies in the unconscious of the next designer and the cycle continues. In the meantime, what comes to maturity is design and what is constantly being created is trend.

In fact, a designer needs technology to execute his projects and present them, and technology plays a major role in a designer's career.

I use 3D Modeling, Rendering and Final Presentation software depending on the type of project.

All of these complete a good design. No idea or form independent of these is complete and applicable.

Better Life and cleaner Earth.

Some of the designs are so great and impressive that I was thrilled when I see them, and I wish I had designed them. Seeing them always multiplies my energy.

Mohamad Montazeri, who is a designer himself, has always been a good partner for me during the design process.

My colleague, Mohamad Montazeri.

Reading books has been one of my favorite activities since my childhood, and I can't address any specific case, because each of them has influenced me directly or indirectly. Sometimes their influenced my imagination, sometimes my perspective toward the life as well as literacy and science.

We live in an age where things are rapidly changing and developing and I need to update myself on these changes and gain more and more experiences to benefit from new skills and experiences.

I certainly can't address just a particular person. I’d lie to visit Leonardo Davinci, Albert Enstein, Charles Darwin and Elon Musk.

I feel well, but as I become more famous and well-known in the workplace, people expect more responsibility.

I love the light color blended with gray The pristine nature is fascinating to me. Spring and winter are my favorite seasons. I love Italian cuisine. Space, astronomy and the character of the astronaut are an integral part of my life.

Constant attention to the surroundings brings a lot of great moments and memories for a designer. I think, they will greatly influence the design of a successful designer. Various experiences and memories, such as watching children use their toys, listening to the sound of river, touching a soft and delicate leaf, immersing in the beauty of the night sky and the stars, and so on.

Seeing great new designs gives me great passion. For me to do activities that make my mind readier always been motivating.

My great interest in art was very evident. In addition, one of my favorite things in childhood was to de-assemble kitchen electric appliances! I would always de-assemble and reassemble the things.

Given the advancement of technology, I think life can be fantastic in the future in term of design. I wish that at that time, the life condition of people would be good everywhere in the world.

Thank you for the interview, and finally, I’d like to emphasize once again that ethical design can make the world more beautiful than it used to be.

Designer Interview

26 February 2020

My childhood and adolescence was spent in an artistic atmosphere and I have had many useful experiences in various branches of art such as painting, music and photography. I was interested in design before university, so I chose Industrial Design at university. While studying at university I gained the knowledge and experience to be the best in my field.

I am also working at Arena Design Studio; Now I'm the head of design department at Design Arena Studios. At this studio sustainable design is the approach that we have selected on product design.

Design is an integral part of my life, and the products I design are like my children.

I love designing products in categories such as digital and home appliance and furniture.

In general, I like good design, no matter what the product is, if it has a good design, I respect it.

My first design was for a furniture design company where I designed a library that was built.

All of these are important and priorities change according to the project, but I'm more inclined to technology.

When I am focused on my upcoming projects and immersed in them, I feel the sense of creativity.

Creativity and innovation have always been important to me. But that is not enough. Consistency with form and function and other are requirements that must be met in each product (such as ergonomics, usability, etc.).

The design process has always been exciting for me. When I am faced with a difficult challenge and overcome it, I feel pleasant.

It's a good moment. Because I can see other people's feedback and comments on my work.

When a product makes a deep and emotional connection with the user, and in addition meets the user's needs, it seems to me that the design is a successful design.

It can vary depending on each product and its category. But in general, creativity and innovation is an important criterion, and this criterion must interact with others to provide the user a creative, useful and applicable product.

A designer must respect the ethical standards and design consciously, then he can truly take care of other important aspects of its product, such as the environment. A designer, like other humans, must be committed to the Earth on which he lives and if he believes in it, his design surely would be an environmentally friendly product.

The world is changing and the lifestyle and needs of today's people are different. The design field, as it relates directly to the user, is naturally associated with these changes and evolves to meet new human needs. I think the integrity of technology with human life will be more intense in the future and future designers will be more responsible to maintain this balance.

Last month on Kish Island, Iran. My next exhibition was probably the E-Design Group Exhibition.

I love astronomy and the cosmos, and I have chosen the character of the astronaut as my own identity because of its abandonment and searching nature, and since it is knowledge enterprise and it lacks belonging, and I try to act as an astronaut in my type of thinking and experience the unknowns. Astronomy has always been a source of inspiration for me. I try to preserve this identity forever in the products that I design.

I have designed many products considering the concept of Space and modern technologies. Overall, my interest in modern technology exploration, as well as astronomy and events of the field, has led me to find different and useful solutions regarding the questions from clients.

I live in Iran but I see no borders on earth. I have always tried not to belong to a particular place and design without belonging. One of the reasons I am interested in space is to get rid of any boundaries and believe that we humans on earth only own one house and that is our planet the Earth. So this cultural influence comes from a lot of things and is not just from the land in which I live. But just looking at the environment and social life, you will find that our lifestyle and the many challenges and limitations we face have naturally affected my mind and my design process so that my mind is more prepared to solve the numerous challenges. So I am more mature facing the problems in the design process. Because my mind has become accustomed to always looking for a solution.

A designer's resume always shows his abilities. In the meantime, I think the people who compete with many designers around the world at prestigious international competitions and receive medals, have in fact shown their competence level which can be a good option.

The design methods I use for each product vary depending on the product. In this respect I am flexible. But I have spent a lot of time researching and exploring different solutions to the problem and this is what all they have in common. I believe the more time spent on design briefs, the easier it is to continue designing and brainstorming.

Designing in the areas of furniture design, lighting, home appliance, interior design, digital device design.

Usually my days are different. But I always have some routine in my daily life, such as reading books, reading newspapers and electronic journals and websites to keep up with the latest news regarding science and technology and design. I take care of my plants and flowers and do my projects.

My suggestion is to experience and practice. Great ideas may come to the minds of many people, but one who acts and bringing them to reality is always the winner.

Being a designer is a pleasure for anyone who loves design. Sometimes designing a project may take a lot of time and energy from the designer, but if you love it, the potential difficulties are easily tolerated and managed. I personally love design, and because of my patience and ability to manage, I haven't faced a negative point which can be a problem.

Adherence to ethics, patience, management, and studying the modern science.

Many skills are important to a designer, but I think management skill is the key.

Good design is the result of teamwork and everyone in the team can handle a part of the project based on their abilities. The answer to this question can vary different depending on the design of each product, but generally I can mention 3D modeling, rendering and presentation software.

Yes it really is, but I think everything is possible with proper planning.

It varies depending on the type of project. Some tasks require more time.

They are more curious about how my ideas come to my mind and are interested in explaining the ways of cultivating creativity.

All of my work experiences are of equal value to me.

Usually home appliance manufacturing companies and furniture companies, as well as knowledge-enterprise startups.

I love product design and enjoy the teamwork. Working in a team allows a team to grow simultaneously during a project and to become more mature than before. Anyone within a team can also learn many things that are not easily accessible in individual projects.

Success in my favorite field of design and presenting my work internationally. Because as a designer I have a lot to say. I think, the designer's mission is to speak to the world through his products.

I have experienced both types of design but team work is more interesting for me.

Yes. I am currently working with a furniture company.

I am a member of various popular social networks through which people can connect with me. My personal email is also available, and personal website is www.elhammirzapour.com.

Thank you for the interview, and finally I’d like to emphasize once again that ethical design can make the world more beautiful than it used to be.
