Interview with Fang Cheng Dong

I have always been passionate about finding a solution with aesthetic, which is the fundamental driving force that makes me become a designer, because I firmly believe that design can make the world and people's lives better and better.

Every day before I start working, I will let myself think for a while, letting my design mind slowly clear up, and it will begin to stretch out its branches like a big tree in the early morning.

Design trends depend on popular technologies and emerging concepts. This information can be obtained from many channels. Trends are always changing and will only be used as a reference. What is more important is the people who can create trends.

Good design is simple, because simplicity means more effective problem solving, simpler production processes, and more economical and fully utilized resources.

When I think it can't be get much more better.

Mr. Dieter Rams, the 10 design principles from him benefit me for a lifetime.

A’Design Award let a lot of people know about my design projects, and also allowed me to learn more design concepts and culture of designers from different countries. The award ceremony of the A’Design Award competition is the best memory for me. All of these have greatly promoted my design career.

I believe the gift that God gave to me, because He want to see a better world.

I chose to become a designer before I went to college, cause I want to create more and more beautiful things.

Before one years ago, I am a product designer, in the past 4years I designed kinds of products like Induction cooker, fridges, washing machine, air conditioner and so on. But now I become a car designer, working for GAC Group in China.

Maintained a passion for life and love the world.

In my opinion, the different thing is you design for goods or you design for people.

Good design is to be used conveniently by different people, but none can feeling that it has been designed.

Good design give people a comfortable life and good mood, so we need it.

I want to design something that is related to people's lives closely, because that's what's important to human beings.

A car, a wise creature, a friend. These three are the same thing.

To consider more about people's lives, think like a child, I must convince myself at first.

Mr. Dieter Rams, the last time I invited by Braun as a guest juror for BraunPrize, I meet Mr. Dieter Rams in Braun and I know more deeply about his design philosophy.

I like those things which are full of passion and good for our life. For example, Gogoro is beautiful and meaningful design for our life.

For now, I wish my greatest design is an intelligent car, it is still in process :)

Adhere to the faith, love the world！

Maybe a artist, maybe a engineer I think.

Design is an impulse, people want to achieve their goals, so they need design. Design is a tools for people to achieve their aims.

For concept project, maybe 3~5month. For production project, need one or two years.

To be a famous designer is not important, to design a famous product is more important.

I like orange, I like Como and Italian food.

Traveling to Como and attend the A’ design award ceremony is a very wonderful experience for me.

Our world is beautiful and lovely, I should do my best to make it more and more better.

I am not sure, it's been a long time I can't remember that.

It depends on the development of science and technology, but I think no matter how the world changes, human beings are the same.

I am a designer, I working for my faith, I working for our world!

My first project is MingLing industrial sewing machine, it tooks more than one year. But encouragingly, this project win the Redstar Award in 2012.

Rigorous and freedom, I guess.

I'd like to create products which have vitality, only chases the purist and most practical design, and uses my full energies to understand the deepest demand of my client and transfer these demand into real product.

Reverence for nature, learning from nature.
