Interview with Massimo Facchinetti

Design Legend Interview

26 April 2017

He obtained his certificate in geometry in 1984 at the institute for geometries "G. Quarenghi "in Bergamo. In October 1992 he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano with an environmental design thesis entitled "La strada del freddo", followed by Professor Alessandro Ubertazzi, Professor Giuseppe Gambirasio and Architect Pierguido Bay

For the need of missing products on the market

I chose for personal taste

The study deals with 360° Design: from pin to car

Studying a lot, listening so much, apply yourself very much

The opportunities

With a good relationship between the realization capacity, the costs and the benefits

The value of a good design is the "added value", so something more than normal

Of everything

A children's play for all

Persist, never give up

Zanuso, Branzi, Mari, Maldonado

The vertical kitchen presented at the Milan Furniture Show, because the relationship with the customer was complex

Studying a lot

The architect

Study the product to solve a need

Myself, my professor, my mother

Comparison with companies, with who asked what I had done before

With info-graphics

An electric bicycle

To make new products in the industrial field, in the less-used areas

Solving the problems of new needs

On the world of personal electrical transport

The waste bin because it was the first one. The helmet is the last one

I hope to see more research and experimentation

On designing objects in total quality

From a few hours to full months: depends on the order

From what I find in nature

Turning difficultly into opportunities

I think it's a small part

Very important. I would say the primary

Solid thinking for 3D design

I consider it the fourth dimension

They know how to judge the right mix of costs and benefits

Ideal are my employees, albeit external

People with various cultures and/or specializations

All of Branzi, Mari, Maldonado and Zanuso

Working hard and studying a lot

Yes a lot. It is very expensive in terms of energy

Blue, Italy, pasta, winter and bicycles Bianchi

Every day a new thing to think, to refine

I really liked building with Lego and Meccano

I see it evolves in only ten years now. Thousand is too far away

Designer Interview

26 April 2017

It is the curiosity that, as a child, has led me to understand how various arts have been built. My cultural activity and my undergraduate studies in industrial design have pushed me in the direction of my profession.

In 1994 establish the design firm “DISEGNO”, that will become, in 1997, the company Massimo Facchinetti designer by Prototipi s.a.s., being interested in industrial consultancy and realisation of projects in the field of design.
The study deals with 360° Design : from pin to car. Useful Design: pursue the Italian tradition to get utility in the product. Environmental design: pursue the integration between artefacts and context micro and macro environmental, using in the right way colors and materials. Design For All: always give the right consideration the final user, endorsing the positive aspects of the concept of customization, for a suitable product for all without distinction. Eco-friendly Design: decarbosination of the product / service, with the goal of the complete quality and of the energetic benefit in the global process.

The industrial product reproducible for everyone

The development of complex objects

It's the design that solves a problem

The waste bin "Synthesis" for Athena Urban Furniture

The use of modelable materials that can be accommodated in any form, by molding

When motivated by the end goal

The form that can communicate the use, which can express what is the object

The thrill of creating something new

The greatest satisfaction is to see a project become reality

The awareness that products can really serve more than pleasure

It must be first of all useful, be feasible and finally combine functionality and design

Responsibility to respect the environment. No, too easy ... I always say that I want to design in total quality

Design for me is the modern evolution of what is already there

The last exhibition of my projects was held in the MACS 2013 exhibition, held in Milan, in the Tortona area

From nature! I think there is already everything in nature: we just have to recover it

Easy style. Simplicity is the key to the product

I live in Italy. This leads to difficulties in understanding the value added to the companies

It is difficult to relate to our work and, therefore, to represent our competences

To believe more in designers and their skills, to accept the challenge to the new

It's very simple: research, analysis, comparison, concept

Home, work, sport, home

To believe in their ideas, after studying the subject very much

The positive side is that it is a good job. Negative: it's a little remunerated

Always insist. Change the difficultly into opportunities

Culture in general. All

The most important is the handmade design. Then everything else

I devote time to research and comparison

It ranges from a few hours to months: it depends on the product

That's a little cost

The project of a vertical rotating kitchen, presents at the Salone del Mobile in Milan

I have collaborated with international and national companies of the caliber of Ares, Athena, Biffi Luce, Clei, Elitable, Foppapedretti, Global radiatori, HMR Helmets, ICI caldaie, IdealLux, Rolfo, Martini Illuminazione

More generally everything

Some developments in Car Design

Teamwork with office staff: Alessio, Andrea e Davide

The design of electric bicycles
