Interview with Maxxis

We have a lot of ideas about how to improve the surroundings around us. And we are particularly interested in approach these problems in a design and innovative perspective.

In general, some people enjoy appreciating creations, while some others enjoy creating items. And I enjoy being a creator.

Our team concentrates on designing special tires for electric vehicles and concept tires. We hope to lay our hands on topics such as future transportation and creative promotion strategies for the concepts.

Our opinion for young designers who want to become the design legend is continues to learn and to design. Keep communicating with the world and remember all designs start from human beings, and all designs are for human beings.

A good designer designs a new form for the same product. However, a great designer achieves the design goals with a better and smarter solution.

We think if the design can achieve the goal with a more effective way or reduce some cost in the development process, then it is a good design.

The value of good design is that it can shape our vision for the future. Because we have expectation for a better future, thus we pursue to reach the goal.

We would design a great working space for the team. Inside the space, we will design a quite zone for concentration jobs, and a cozy zone for temporarily relax.

The dream project we want to realize is designing and building a future mobile service platform.

Do not afraid to fail. Besides, there is nothing called a definite failure because you can always get something from the experiences.

We want to let the users to be in part of the design process. The users can add their opinion when we improve the design and help making a better version to the design.

We are creating airless concept tires for electric vehicles, hoping to depict a blueprint for the development of tire technology and future mobility.

It does not exist, there always be a better design.

We believe that with the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, the intervention of AI is redefining the way designers work. AI can process large amounts of data and provide deep insights, thus assisting designers in making more accurate design decisions. At the same time, designers' creative thinking and deep understanding of human emotions cannot be replaced by AI. We hope that this model, which combines human intuition and AI arithmetic, can lead the design industry towards a more innovative and humanized future.

We think the design field will reflect more of the changes happened in the society. And design may have more responses to the changes.

In the company’s case, it takes about one to two years to finish a project.

When we have a new design project, we normally start from clarifying the problems.

The faster the world is, the slower the heart is.

We think when a disruptive innovation is being made and it is accepted by the market, this is when a new trend has occurred. Take the revolution of phones for example, by the time when designing a phone with tangible buttons is the mainstream, the prototype of a phone without buttons appeared on the market, and it took over the trend completely in just a few years. So we would say design sets the trends.

Technology is the tool to help simulate, test, and realize.

We use pens, paper, iPad, and laptop during design. Some of the commonly used software and applications includes Rhino, AutoCAD, KeyShot, Adobe, Sketchbook, Procreate and Pinterest.

Color, materials and ambient are assistants that can help designs to better fit the purpose. At the same time, make the design complete.

My favorite colors are red and white. I am crazy about the street food in Taiwan. Fall is my favorite season. The brands I like are Mujirushi Ryouhin, COS, Coke Cola and Maxxis.

We had held design workshops for the company, and they are treasure experience. It was very rare that we invite designers from outside the system and try to let everyone participate in the same design task and evaluate the design in assigned criteria.

We try to live a life very down to earth, and we try to design products that people willing to use.

When I was little, I loved playing with blocks. It helps developing thinking and creating.

We think a thousand years from now, human beings will spread and live in the universe.

Design is the process of discovering problems, and solving problems in a cooler way. We will always come up with a better solution every time we face a new task.

We feel most creative while having discussion with colleagues or people from different fields. The collision of ideas would result in an unexpected outcome. And these outcomes have a big chance to be carried out.

We pay a lot of attention in durability while designing a product. This should be the basic requirement for a product.
Beyond that, creating a unique product that allows it to stand out would also be an important task for the engineers.

Every design is a new challenge, the excitement and anxiety throughout the process is priceless to the entire designing team.

When the design is finally done, we felt relief and joyful.

Fulfilling the customer’s need would always come in first.

In our opinion, causing damage to the environment not only comes from the disposal of the products, but also the chaotic mess production itself. Reducing the waste during product design is what a designer should always keep in mind of. For example, are we able to use different material, recyclable material on the product? Can we change the manufacture process and make sure each step is clean?

We believe that with the rapidly development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, it would redefine the way designers work, the role of designers may gradually shift from executors to strategists. In the future, the relationship between AI and human designers will increasingly focus on collaboration and symbiosis. In order to achieve long-term development for a sustainable future, social inclusiveness, environmental sustainability, and the principle of cross-generational equity between the modern and future generations should be take into account while designing and at the meantime, pursuing economic growth.

We would love to collaborate and develop concept tires and exhibit with car companies

Our inspiration comes from the internet, the academy journals, and variety types of books. Keeping an exercise plan, regular meeting with friends from different fields, and random chats are all good ways to inspire our design team.

Upon looking at our design, one may think of the term “form follow function”.
We do not like designing things that includes too much abstract aesthetics with no actual meanings. However, when all the functional problems have been solved, we would love to shift our focus to the appearance of the product.

We live in Taiwan, a technologically advanced island with diverse ethnicities and cultures. The advantage of working and designing here is the good flexibility, while the downside is that the emphasis on time efficiency may compress our thinking.

We would discuss with the company’s strategy department and achieve yearly goals. Then we produced innovative products.

We would suggest the company to provide a bigger space and time for the innovate team so that these innovative activities are able to show itself.

First of all, we will fully discuss our design propose for every project. Secondly, we collect and build a data base of technology news and trends as the input of inspiration. Next, we brainstorm and sketch. After that, we visualize our concepts and had discussions. Finally, we adjust our design till the day we release the product to the market.

We enjoy using bedding, reading room, bookshelves, clocks, and plants at home.

We try to live a life down to earth, and we try to design products that people are willing to use.

Please don’t feel bad if things did not meet your expectation. Just keep trying. Meet people and listen more to other’s opinion. Sometimes a different perspective helps.

We have a higher standard towards our surrounding environment, the items we use, and the quality of life. However, we sometimes have unrealistic expectations for many things and have relatively low tolerance for adverse or unpleasant environments.

The golden principle is to ask the right question and to figure out what the actual problem is. After that, we set priorities for every unsolved problem, and double checking the problems by consulting with the users once again. With a list of design problems in hand, designers then begin a long time-consuming brainstorming process to come up with the concept.

Observation, imagination, communication and empathy are the most important skills for a designer.

We use pens, paper, iPad, and laptop during design. Some of the commonly used software and applications includes Rhino, AutoCAD, KeyShot, Adobe, Sketchbook, Procreate and Pinterest. Coffee and snacks are also essential.

We create time schedule and set controlling point for every step to make sure things are on the right track.

In the company’s case, it takes about one to two years to finish a project.

We’d say drivers and passengers are always our most important clients.

We enjoy using the designs that make us feel happy during using experience. We enjoy the type of design with a clear target user portrait, proper function choices, and a beautiful appearance.

We are looking forward to participating in the 2024-2025 A’DESIGN award with a whole new airless concept tires for electric vehicles.
