Design Legend Interview
30 October 2020
Have studied in Tokyo, and started my own business in Paris.
As designers we really have the ability to shape the world around us, that is really empowering.
It happened naturally.
Design every scale very diverse projects. We are very happy to have variation and would like to keep it that way.
The aim should be to make innovative and successful projects not to become a legend.
Someone has good aesthetic is a good designer, and someone who could create in addition a project with meaning is a great designer.
Creation with good story telling.
Good design improves lives for a better future.
Would like to travel more to find the answer.
Finding a way to archive all of our background research.
Allowing yourself to get lost and search originality in very different directions.
I get inspired by everyone and everything not particularly design legends.
Everything finding beauty in small things.
I feel like every project that we have achieved have brought solutions and depth so they are all great.
To be curious and observe everything around you.
I don’t know.
Determine the problem and solve it by creating a solution in form or space.
All those who have believed in me.
Live as a foreigner.
Finalize creations and to meet the deadline for each project is always a big challenge.
Not sure, we are always thinking about improving presentations, perhaps clarity is the aim.
We are currently designing a restaurant and a library you should expect more storytelling in the future.
Find alternative ways of living.
To be a problem solver.
Good design can bring people together and has a direct consequence on wellbeing so the good design can improve the world.
A new lighting system.
En skincare, because the client gave us time to develop the design in depth.
More environmentally friendly materials.
As our situation today is tough, in every field, hopefully still be relevant.
Depend on requirements, ideally as long as possible.
Discussion with team and clients.
To be curious and open.
Both equally.
It is a tool to save time in order to give more time for reflection, but also strenuous and time-consuming to master…
The basic 2D and 3d software.
Colour and materials are very important elements in design that can completely modify and ambiance and a design also it connects directly with the individual’s feelings.
Anything, we always appreciate people taking an interest in what we do or in design in general.
Well, I guess first I am impressed then analyze the product or design to understand it.
Yes. We have a good team so am happy with my current partners therefore am convinced in co-design.
Internal discussion in the team.
The book of tea by tenshin okakura, and in praise of shadows by Junichiro tanizaki.
It is still a struggle but I guess by staying open-minded.
Leonardo da Vinci, and Sen no Rikyu (the historical figure that influenced the Japanese lifestyle like the tea ceremony).
Not changed a lot.
Black or white, bathroom, Asian food, spring, etc.
Time to time we create the mock-up of installation at the street in front of our office, and the person who passes by considered as guerrilla art and react kindly. Once we have this kind of positive reaction from the public, we can be confident with our design direction.
If we could produce something which makes us happy our day is great. Motivate is to keep always productive.
I have moved the country when I start to learn talking and back to my country when I start to develop my identity. Probably this experience to be lost and to be curious led me to this design activity.
I think history repeats more or less the same flow in different places, with different speed. Probably not changing a lot of human fundamental values, with many references will be created and forgotten.
Please contact us with any kind of situation. We are always happy to have a new relationship.
Designer Interview
30 October 2020
The curiosity of the world and the unknown was the starting point, younger my rebellious spirit that led to the need to challenge the status quo which I guess is one of the definitions of a designer.
We are multi-culture creative team based in Paris. We design at all scales for very diverse projects, while always aiming for a strong narrative and concept.
Simplification and bringing clarity from mass information.
Above all we like the challenge and usually, always find a way to make the project interesting, therefore do not want to limit our practice by pushing away project proposals.
One of our favourite projects we designed is Bukiya, a Japanese souvenir shop. Its strength relies in the inventive modular display system that we created simply using key rings hung on screws in the walls. This project truly reinvents the retail experience.
Shop design.
Our main and preferred material to find inspiration is our library, our books are key to our practice.
While brainstorming as a team is usually when we come up with the best ideas.
In order to conceive interesting creation we usually attribute a lot of time to historical research and context analysis. We noticed that it is actually also very useful for aesthetic conception as well.
Usually, I feel overwhelmed at the beginning.
Feelings of satisfaction but paradoxically also frustration as I never get the sense of completion as I feel like projects can always be improved.
We also are looking for the answer perhaps simplicity.
Depth of thought that went into a project.
A curious and free spirit individual with the desire to improve the quality of life of others.
The design field is constantly evolving, with new problems especially in our era comes new solutions that are desperately needed.
Nuit Blanche 2015 in Paris.
We are always happy to exhibit our work so any time we get the opportunity.
We are always happy to exhibit our work so any time we get the opportunity.
As a saying says “Study the past if you would define the future” the study of history never lets us down inspiring us every time.
Furthermore, as our team is composed of designers from various cultures and different countries, we have access to different cultural knowledge This is one our strength as the diversity in our team leads to creations that are more likely to resonate with a larger audience.
Paris. Culturally the paste is slower than in other large cities, and it takes slightly more time to develop a project but also for people to change their habits. Their attachment to the traditional style of life is at the same time something positive and negative, in some regard we appreciate the time to find strong concepts.
We perceive working with a client as an exchange, a partnership that can lead to interesting projects.
Companies should try to select designers that are good problem solvers, I think that it is important that companies trust designers in making bold moves, little risk can lead to incredible projects.
Identify context problem and brief then create a concept usually abstract then apply the concept to space with sketches and finally in the plan or in the model.
Chair, lighting, books, flower pots, sofas.
Too broad to describe.
Observation is key, and effort is always necessary.
Great joy and frustration at the same time. No pain no gain.
Not to establish a fixed rule.
Curiosity.
Book, google, pen and notebook, physical model, and 3d software.
We would like to improve our time management weekdays are usually very long.
Sometimes a few minutes, some time years.
Do you love what you do?
To take responsibility for everyone in the project.
Confidential.
I really enjoy Axel Vervoordt’s body of work, his ability to mix old and new is very inspiring.
Grow as a company to develop our activity.
