About Unfolding Residential House
Unfolding is a residential interior design located on the twenty-third floor of a building in New Taipei City, Taiwan. The plan covers 150 square meters and follows the panoramic view as its main axis. The reading room is opened toward the living area, so the two spaces form a flexible, courtyard-like core. The dining area and the kitchen extend the same open boundary, which adults, children and pets can share. Stone, iron, wood, glass, leather and textile are combined with careful detailing to create a calm and warm atmosphere.
About Chienting Chen
Being a certified Architect from Taipei,Taiwan.After 25 years' efforts I’m an experienced veteran of interior design and architecture,devoting to all types of interior design as well as specializing in renovation field including apartment,house,corporate office,indoor swimming pool,rehabilitation center,long term medical care center and so on.There have been more than 50 works completed by me.Most of them were done in Taiwan, some in Mainland China and Hong Kong.I lead my team with a competent capability of energetically communicating with English-speaking clients and consultants/subcontractors.Yiching means our design concept derived from local phenomenon and deduced to fit environment...

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- The case is located on the 23rd floor and has excellent panoramic view. How to respond to the condition of the design axis has become the main entry point of design. The wide-area public spaces sometimes become the hall where highly appreciated by the guests and host, but more often, it is a place where you can meditate on the essence of life.
- Inspiration
- A moderate combination of flexible study rooms into a courtyard-like space that extends depth from exterior to the four sides of interior is the design concept of this case. In addition to the public space such as dining and kitchens where graceful and elegant aura diffused; adults, children, and even pets can also enjoy the feeling of unconstrained in space to expand the sense of boundaries.
- Research
- Although it seems contradictory a bit to define a cozy style in real core living space and harmonise endurable physical environment with a low profile but luxurious aura is my major research in this case.Through making intensive study towards different kinds of materials such as metal,leather,wood,glass and so on,we develop many details between connected parts.Not only did we design these details on drawings but also embody on real construction site.Finally we upgraded our capability in detail crafts and realised what Mies ever said "god in detail" in mind.

- The client requested some principles including cozy aura,durable tectonics,and mature warm style.we unfold the reading room into flexible connection to extend living core zone where the master and guests can enjoy all kinds of activities by immersing themselves into this undefined circumvented boundary .Accompanied with mutual trust and smooth construction ,finally the client is very satisfied with the outcome.
