About Eastern Blocks Concrete Jewelry
Eastern Blocks is a concrete jewelry collection inspired by Eastern European panel blockhouses. The collection includes necklaces and earrings that follow the shapes of prefabricated apartment buildings. Concrete is used because the material is light, non-allergenic and not easily broken. Each piece starts as a three-dimensional drawing, followed by prototypes and silicone molds for casting. The finished concrete parts are then joined with silver and leather. The collection invites a fresh look at Eastern European architectural heritage.

Design Details
- Unique Properties
- This design is wearable architecture. Concrete material and brutalist design with the story behind makes these accessories more than wearable - it's an educational, fashionable manifesto about architectural heritage and society.
- Inspiration
- The collection was inspired by Eastern European panel blockhouses as an iconic modern community symbol. Shapes of panel buildings and us - people, who live in individuality fiction, because the truth is that only a few centimeters between the walls separate us and our individuality is just fiction in this world.
- Research
- I made monitoring of the architecture and society attitude of Eastern European houses. My objective was to find a way, how to talk about post-Soviet society and Eastern European architecture heritage in fashion accessories. The main point is to start a discussion with locals' minds about this unique architecture and spread this wearable message. In this collection, I question people’s attitudes towards Soviet heritage and invite you to take a fresh look at Soviet architecture and society's illusions.
- Challenge
- To find a form, which would be understandable, that it's blockhouse jewelry, but minimalist, aesthetic and impressive.
- Realization and Technology
- I chose concrete material - light, non-allergenic, and less fragile to create an ode of a brutalist dystopia. First of all, I designed 3d drawings, made prototypes, and then, started to create molds for concrete details with silicon. When the concrete pieces were finished, I started metalworking with silver and leather materials.
- Operation and Interaction
- Wearable jewelry made of concrete. Light, strong, and non - allergic material make jewelry more comfortable and wearable. This technology and design give a chance to wear architecture in real form and material as a piece of jewelry.
- Project Duration and Location
- This project started as an idea 2018 but I finished this collection 2020.
- Specifications
- Necklaces approx.17.5 cm x 15.5 cm and other 18x11 thickness 0.5- 1 cm. Earrings 4x2 cm concrete detail and optional 5-9 cm silver wire long. Other earrings 14.5x2 cm.
