- Inspiration
- In fast-paced urban life, home should be a sanctuary. Inspired by the need for a retreat from city stress, this design guides emotional transitions, making homecoming a ritual of serenity. The entry corridor acts as a threshold, separating home from chaos. Dark flooring and warm wood create safety, helping the mind unwind. Further inside, seamless flooring and textured stone open the space, making it fluid and airy. Light shifts throughout the day, shaping changing moods.
- Research
- Located in Taipei, this project turns an urban home into a retreat. In a fast-moving city, home should offer peace. The design balances sensory elements—color, texture, sound, and light—to create calm. The entry corridor shifts from deep tones and a lowered ceiling to an open living area. Dark stone fosters tranquility, while soft furnishings and light wood add warmth. Textured stone, seamless flooring, and soft furnishings guide flow. Light shifts throughout the day, reinforcing balance. Beyond aesthetics, the design merges structure, materiality, and soft elements to restore harmony.
- Challenge
- This project balances urban energy with tranquility. The challenge was creating a space for relaxation while maintaining openness and elegance. The entry corridor grounds the space with dark stone and a lowered ceiling. Moving forward, an airy living area unfolds, softened by warm tones and textured materials. A key challenge was removing excess luxury while keeping warmth. The design uses refined materials, precise lighting, and minimal elegance for understated grandeur. By blending space, light, and textures, this home offers serenity, presence, and a place to recharge.
- Realization and Technology
- This project achieves spatial transformation through progressive material and color transitions. The entry corridor features dark wood veneer ceilings, paired with matching wall panels and stone flooring, creating a grounded ambiance. Moving into the main area, the ceiling shifts to light wood veneer, walls adopt textured coatings, and seamless flooring enhances openness and light diffusion. Material contrasts refine depth and tactility—stone and wood interplay to balance warm and cool textures. Tile flooring transitions into soft-coated surfaces, reducing rigidity and complementing fabric and leather furnishings.
- Operation and Interaction
- This design centers on human experience, guiding users into calm through spatial flow and material transitions. The hallway shifts from city bustle to home serenity. Materials transition from dark stone and a lowered ceiling to seamless light flooring and higher ceilings, creating openness. Lighting evolves with time, enhancing spatial interaction. Soft furnishings refine ambiance, softening rigid lines for warmth. The home is barrier-free, ensuring long-term ease. Beyond a retreat, this space restores balance in a fast-paced world.
