Design Details
- Unique Properties
- The collection is entirely made from biodegradable polyester fiber synthetic leather and faux fur. The fabric is crafted with materials that mimic the intricate textures of melting glacier surfaces, with the patterns being manually pieced together to replicate the glacier's unique forms. The textures reproduce the crisscrossing patterns of glacial landscapes. The loose, oversized silhouettes pay tribute to the grandeur and solemnity of glaciers, while varying shades of blue and organic shapes highlight their vastness and fragility. This approach promotes sustainable, zero-waste fashion, ensuring that every piece of fabric is efficiently utilized, in line with sustainable design principles.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by the melting and formation cycles of glaciers, this collection symbolizes their breathing life-force. It also aligns with the International Year of Glacier Preservation and World Day For Glaciers. Eastern aesthetics, emphasizing harmony with nature, influence the design to convey the balance between ecosystems and the urgency of glacier protection in the face of global warming.
- Research
- This collection explores the intersection of fashion and climate activism, drawing from glaciology and sustainability research. The project uses fashion as a tool to represent glacier dynamics and raise awareness about their fragility due to global warming. The research combines advanced textile technologies with ecological principles to produce an environmentally responsible yet aesthetically compelling collection.
- Challenge
- Blending artistic design with environmental education posed a unique challenge. Crafting materials that mimic glaciers’ textures while remaining sustainable required innovative thinking. The project had to balance aesthetic appeal with a serious environmental message, ensuring that fashion served as both art and activism to communicate the urgency of glacier preservation.
- Realization and Technology
- The collection uses biodegradable synthetic leather and faux fur made from polyester fibers. Handcrafted material textures replicate melted ice surfaces, and zero-waste dyeing techniques minimize environmental impact. Sustainability is central, with a focus on reducing carbon footprints through eco-conscious production methods and mindful material use.
- Operation and Interaction
- Fashion serves as an environmental dialogue through this project. The oversized, minimalist designs symbolize glacier tranquility, inviting wearers and viewers to reflect on global warming and the fragility of nature. The collection combines art, fashion, and activism, offering a deeper interaction with the wearer, encouraging contemplation of environmental preservation.
