Design Details
- Unique Properties
- Rooted in youthful and vibrant Chengdu culture, the robot serves as a warm and intelligent companion in public spaces. It features smooth, rounded contours and a big head and large feet, giving it a friendly and endearing appearance. Combining multimodal emotion perception with humanlike gestures and voice interactions, it responds naturally to emotions. Its robot group control system and modular cultural and creative accessory interfaces offer more possibilities for cultural expression.
- Inspiration
- The robot draws inspiration from Tangpa Street in Jinjiang District of Chengdu, a youthful and vibrant neighborhood rich in culture. The design team aims to fuse the friendliness in Chengdu culture with advanced robotic technology to create a humanoid robot that conveys the essence of local culture and is suitable for public spaces.
- Research
- As robots become increasingly present in public spaces, traditional robots prioritize functionality while overlooking emotional connection. To address this, TP 01 features smooth, rounded shapes to enhance friendliness and a sense of safety. Combined with multimodal emotion perception and humanlike interactions, the robot integrates naturally into public spaces including cultural, commercial, tourism, and sports settings, serving as a link between advanced technology and everyday life.
- Challenge
- The challenge was to a make TP 01 a warm and intelligent companion in public spaces. With micro expression recognition system and a 19 inch HD display, it precisely perceives user emotions and responds through voice, humanlike gestures, and dynamic facial expressions. It also learns user behaviors continuously to deliver more personalized emotional interactions. The robot features 6 DOF neck motions (nodding, lateral tilting, and panoramic rotation), further enhancing performance.
- Realization and Technology
- The robot is made from safe, lightweight, and low maintenance materials, ensuring durability while providing a refined handfeel and friendly look, making it suitable for both interactions with children and prolonged use in public spaces. A bright, macaron inspired color palette softens the industrial coldness, creating a playful and vibrant atmosphere.
- Operation and Interaction
- With a micro expression recognition system, a 19 inch HD display, and voice interactions, the robot precisely perceives and responds to user emotions. It 6 DOF neck motions, highly biomimetic gaits, and a robust balance control algorithm enable more vivid and natural interactions. A robot group control system supports synchronized group dances and parades with other robots. Interfaces for modular cultural and creative accessories support quick swapping of themed decorative panels.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project officially began in November 2024. By February 2025, its exterior and structural design were completed, followed by a lightweight 2.0 version in August 2025. The robot was officially launched and delivered in December 2025.
