Design Details
- Unique Properties
- Pearl White is a luxury residential interior defined by an exclusive circular plan that enables fluid movement, spatial continuity, and panoramic city and mountain views. Art-led storytelling, refined materiality, and mindful zoning create a serene urban retreat rooted in Indian craftsmanship.
- Inspiration
- The design was inspired by the idea of creating a calm sanctuary within a dense urban setting. The rare availability of panoramic city and mountain views informed the circular planning, while Indian art, craftsmanship, and mindful living principles shaped the material palette and spatial experience.
- Research
- Type of research: Applied design research. Research objectives focused on enhancing spatial calm, circulation efficiency, and view integration in dense urban living. Methodology included site analysis, spatial mapping, and material studies. Data was collected through client interviews, view studies, and mock layouts. Participants included designers, artisans, and consultants. Results demonstrated improved flow and sensory comfort. Insights influenced zoning strategies and material choices, positively impacting everyday urban living quality and residential design practices.
- Challenge
- The primary challenge was designing a fluid circular layout within a high-rise structural grid while meeting strict building regulations and service constraints. Balancing panoramic views with privacy, integrating large artworks, and coordinating bespoke materials required precise planning, technical coordination, and on-site problem solving to maintain spatial continuity and construction accuracy.
- Realization and Technology
- The project was realized through detailed spatial planning, bespoke joinery, and precise on-site coordination. Custom elements such as hand-tufted carpets, semi-precious stone inlays, and integrated brass detailing were made using artisanal fabrication techniques. Layered lighting, concealed services, and precision-installed marble flooring ensured seamless visual continuity and functional performance.
- Operation and Interaction
- The apartment unfolds as a continuous, intuitive journey guided by its circular layout. Spaces flow naturally from private to social zones, with views and light shaping movement and pause. Integrated seating, adaptable rooms, and concealed technology support everyday living while maintaining visual calm and spatial clarity.
- Project Duration and Location
- The project commenced in 2023 in Mumbai, India, and was completed in 2025 in Mumbai. The residence was designed and executed as a private luxury apartment within a high-rise urban context.
- Specifications
- Project area: approximately 465 sqm (5,000 sq ft). The residence features a circular spatial configuration with ceiling heights ranging between 3000 mm and 3300 mm. Flooring includes natural marble slabs with brass inlay detailing. Custom furniture, joinery, and wall panels were fabricated to site-specific dimensions, while lighting systems and services were fully integrated within concealed ceiling and wall assemblies.
