Design Details
- Unique Properties
- A limited edition CNY gift collection for Swiss private bank Julius Baer, featuring a coordinated multi item ensemble with dual theme motifs, peacock and red crowned crane, China's most auspicious symbols. The collection premium tote with signature twilly, pouch, red packets forming a bird and flower painting, and a scroll card. Vibrant red, subtle gold, and blue pink moire balance Swiss elegance with festive joy, transforming functional gifts into decorative art.
- Inspiration
- Inspired by Chinese mythology and ink wash art, this collection blends cultural symbolism with Swiss precision. The peacock embodies "boundless promise" for youth; the red-crowned crane symbolizes longevity for elders. A twilly wrapped handle nods to luxury scarf traditions, while the scroll format updates ancient scholarly gifting. Merging these elements with precision craftsmanship, the designs honour heritage while appealing to global clients who appreciate understated elegance.
- Research
- Using visual cultural analysis, archival research, audits, and 20 interviews in Singapore and Hong Kong, the study identified auspicious symbols beyond zodiac signs and client gifting preferences. Peacock (boundless promise) and crane (longevity) motifs resonated. Clients favored usable, transformative items (tote, pouch), personalizable accessories (twilly), and displayable art (scroll, spliced packets). Enduring gifts increase perceived thoughtfulness and prolong seasonal exposure.
- Challenge
- Challenge, achieve cohesion across formats from tote to twilly, envelopes and scroll. The solution employs a modular system, peacock and crane motifs appear whole on larger items, cropped on smaller pieces, and spliced across red packets, with consistent color application to preserve visual unity. The design links twilly and scroll formats to honor tradition while remaining contemporary.
- Realization and Technology
- The collection is realized through multiple premium production techniques Tote bag and pouch, Crafted from high quality textiles with precise print application to achieve the striking red and gold color collision and embroidered moire patterns Twilly, Silk fabric with detailed edge rolling and pattern registration matching the main motifs
- Operation and Interaction
- The recipient's journey starts with branded packaging. Inside, a Chinese scroll (the greeting card) sets the cultural tone. Unfolding next, the tote reveals a twilly on its handle, wearable multiple ways. The coordinating pouch encourages daily use, while the red packets' splicing design forms a bird and flower tableau when displayed together. The key innovation, these practical gifts transform into decorative art, the tote, pouch, twilly, and envelopes can be arranged as a museum like display, with the scroll kept or unfurled as wall art.
