About Wonderful Travel Children's Birthday Candles
Wonderful Travel is a set of children's birthday candles based on a space travel theme. The set contains six characters, each with a name, a role and an expression, including astronauts, an inventor and a leader. Matching accessories such as a birthday hat are included. The candles can be arranged by hand, much like toys. Each figure is modeled and printed in three dimensions, then reproduced with silicone molds filled with liquid wax and cooled in cold water. The finished candles are made from a mix of beeswax and soybean wax.
About Yong Zhang
Associate Dean, Associate professor, director of Department of industrial design, College of art design, Liaoning Petrochemical University. Members of the International Association Designers, 2019 part in the A' Design Award Jury Panel. The thirteenth Dragon Design Foundation Award, China design youth hundred list. 14 years engaged in industrial design education, has been committed to the research and development of innovative product design, to guide the students to dozens of award-winning works. Design works won two The Silver A' Design Award, IF Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, China Red Star Design Award.

- Unique Properties
- Children's growth is accompanied by animation stories and picture books. Lovely, brave and villain characters are the images in children's games. Space exploration, ice and snow, Jurassic dinosaurs and marine science popularization have become familiar and favorite themes for children. "Space travel" is the theme of this set of candle design, which combines the theme and birthday atmosphere from the image role, story content and environmental color.
- Inspiration
- Wax material is a local characteristic industry, selling raw materials for a long time. The local government has been looking for opportunities for wax products to create new products for the public through industrial design services. Electric light has replaced the function of candle lighting. At present, candles are used in ritual activities. Children's birthdays must be celebrated every year, the market demand is huge, and cultural product design is accepted by people.
- Research
- Nowadays, children's birthday has become the most important festival for families. Cakes and candles are necessary for birthday ceremonies. The market demand and usage of children's candles is huge, the style of market sales is single, the demand can't be met, so it has a good market development prospect. Candle production technology and process are relatively mature, with low investment cost and high profit.
- Challenge
- Consumer psychology determines sales volume. Children's liking is not the only standard. Their mothers are the main purchasing groups. Their purchasing psychology is worth studying.
- Realization and Technology
- According to the design theme and story, design the characters, print the characters in 3D, make the grinding tools with silica gel, and finally pour in liquid wax, cool with cold water and demould. In the experiment, 58 types of paraffin were used, and the mixed proportion of beeswax and soybean wax was used in the finished product.
- Operation and Interaction
- Children decorate with hands, just like toys. Overall design of the suit, including birthday hat and other accessories. There are six roles in space travel: larey: astronaut, showing off, big eyes; Rilla: inventor, making his own spaceship; khaki: astronaut, carefree, like running; Smith: leader, experienced, beer belly; Maigey: astronaut, simple mind, surprised expression; Star: astronaut, big belly, tooth decay, fantasy.
