Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

I hold a Master's degree in Product Design from Tehran University of Art. Since graduating, I've worked as a freelance designer, gaining experience in developing a wide range of products, including toys for visually impaired children, packaging design, and home appliances. Additionally, I have been employed by Sapko, a major automotive company, where I contributed innovative ideas for car interiors.

How did you become a designer?

From childhood, I was passionate about drawing and aspired to become a painter or graphic designer. However, during high school, I watched a documentary about the workflow in a product design studio and how products are developed. I realized that this seemed like a truly enjoyable career.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

From my aspect, product efficiency, functionality, manufacturability, and appearance are crucial aspects. My goal is always balancing these factors and design a product that create a new and unique experience for users.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

Actually, Industrial designers can experience a range of emotions throughout the design process. They may feel excitement while exploring new ideas, frustration when facing challenges, and satisfaction when successfully solving a problem.

The initial steps of the design process are usually the most challenging for me, where you need to gain proper understanding about the design objectives, and user's needs. But on the other hand, the process of idea generation is the most interesting part of the work.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

My father owned a construction machinery company, and I always enjoyed watching how those machines operated. This exposure made me familiar with the technical design and production processes even before I became an industrial designer.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

I'm always seeking new experiences and enjoy working on a variety of design projects, which has helped me continuously improve my knowledge. I am particularly passionate about developing solutions that make life easier for disabled people.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

I recommend maintaining a healthy work-life balance, staying passionate about your work, and embracing failure as a natural part of our profession.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

To excel as a designer, creativity is essential, and fostering curiosity is key to achieving it. Stay curious and open-minded to continuously explore new ideas. Additionally, you need to keep learning and invest in your professional development. Building a robust network of peers and professionals is also crucial for success in the field.

Finally, I suggest you to Balance Creativity with Practicality in your works and always consider the needs and experiences of the end-users.

What is your day to day look like?

Industrial designers typically experience a dynamic and multifaceted daily routine, involving a blend of creative, technical, and collaborative activities.

I begin by reviewing emails and project updates. Throughout the day, I might engage in activities such as design research, concept development, team meetings, design and prototyping, technical development, and preparing presentations. To keep my mind sharp and healthy, I also consider daily physical exercise too.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

I stay abreast of the latest design trends through various methods, such as actively engaging with social media, following influential design blogs and websites, and participating in industry conferences and exhibitions.

Design trends have a substantial impact on consumer preferences, and market demand. Staying updated with these trends enables designers to craft products that align with current tastes and lifestyles, thereby enhancing their market appeal and success.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

First, I evaluate the product from the potential user's standpoint, considering how effective it can be in improving their life. Then, I view the product as the producer, assessing how easily it can be manufactured and what benefits it offers in the market.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

I typically finalize a project by obtaining positive feedback from both the user group and the client. To achieve this, I employ various tools such as prototypes and surveys at the end of the design process.

What is your biggest design work?

I think my best design work was a dual functional wheelchair/ walker.

Who is your favourite designer?

I really admire the works of Zaha Hadid; they are both functional and emotional.

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

Besides design, I enjoy traveling and photography. These activities have allowed me to explore different cultures and visit inspiring and unique places.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

Sometimes I work independently, but I generally prefer collaborating with talented and knowledgeable partners. This approach often enhances the final outcome and efficiency. New collaborators bring fresh perspectives that are essential. However, managing a large team can sometimes pose challenges and necessitate strong management skills.

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

As I mentioned before, I think design should ease human life, especially for people with disabilities, as they are facing more problems.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A' Design Award?

The A' Design Award team put significant effort into showcasing my achievements in the best possible way, ensuring that my work received the recognition it deserved.

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?

Luminous offers an ergonomic lighting and spherical surround sound system in a single product. It creates surround dome-shaped sound in the room without the need for wiring and installing multiple speakers around the place, and as a pendant light, Luminous has been designed to create indirect lighting. This lighting system provides a soft, uniform, and low-contrast light which prevents glare and vision problems.

This product is inspired by nature. The indirect lighting system works in the same way as the sky in nature, the sky distributes light across a large surface and creates desirable ambient light. The sound system of the product also transmits the sound to the listener in the same way as it is in nature, in multilayer levels, and from all directions.

What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?

I was looking to design a product which makes a new experience for the users by creating an emotion that they desire to feel, including peace, excitation, or companionship with friends, in working or living spaces.

What are your future plans for this award winning design?

I am intended to find a company which can produce this product

How long did it take you to design this particular concept?

About 6 months

Who is the target customer for his design?

Luminous has a wide range of potential users. This is a multi-functional product which can be used in the home when listening to music, watching movies or using the game console, and furthermore, it can be utilized in conference rooms, educational environments, or shops.

Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?

I used TRIZ method for idea generation and Rhinoceros for modeling almost 20 different concept

What is the most unique aspect of your design?

It creates both direct and indirect lighting. Moreover, while the wireless speakers in existing audio systems essentially require power and wiring, (only the emission of sound is done wirelessly), but "Luminous" simulates 3D sound without the need for installing multiple speakers around the place and provides a fully wireless audio system and this has a huge impact on the beauty of the environment.

What is the role of technology in this particular design?

Luminous uses LED light sources and equipped with an Ambient Light Sensor that adjusts the brightness of the LEDs on the basis of the ambient light level in the room. This function improves the efficiency of energy use, especially in rainy and cloudy days when the intensity of sunlight is constantly changing.

The sound system consists of 20 small speakers that use a processor to emit the sound in the form of separate channels with different output intensity, in a 360-degree radius and at different firing angles. Consequently, it creates various real and virtual sound sources in the room by reflecting sound off of the floor and walls, bouncing it back into the listener's position, (combination of indirect and direct sound is created). In this case, the sound has vertical and horizontal dimensions and it means the height layer and ear-level layer of the sound are activated which simulate 3D sound.

Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?

My aim was to create a spatial sound system and natural and efficient lighting, so I did comprehensive research about generation and perception of sound and light in nature, Ergonomic guidelines for lighting design, applicable technologies and the design trend of the current samples.

What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?

The most challenging issue during the design process was to make a balance between the product's form and functions. In fact, the core functions of the product had a dominant effect on its form. Moreover, the product should not look unusual, weird and bulky, but appealing, functional and compatible with different environments.

How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

I thought this is the best way to publicize my work

What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?

Working hard and not to be frustrated when you face some barriers. There is always a design solution which will work.
