Fan 커피 테이블 소개

Fan은 중국의 접이식 부채에서 영감을 받은 커피 테이블이다. 상판은 대리석과 예술적인 나무껍질로 제작되었으며, 반달 형태의 청동 부재가 중앙에 결합되어 있다. 곡면으로 처리된 금속 표면은 펼쳐진 부채를 연상시키는데, 부채는 중국 문화에서 선의와 자유로운 움직임을 상징하는 사물이다. 중앙의 반원형 공간에는 꽃이나 작은 장식품을 놓을 수 있다. 대리석은 곡면 금속과 정밀하게 맞물리도록 여러 차례 반복해 연마되었다. 테이블의 크기는 너비 1120mm, 깊이 1120mm, 높이 700mm이다.

고유 특성: Boldly remixed with stone and wood tabletops, the central piece of metal is curated in the shape of a half-moon that resembles the Chinese fan. The fusion of multiple materials creates a mood of mystery and playfulness.

디자인 과제: The structure of the fan table is a triangle, formed by a combination of wood and metal to support the table-top weight. The part where the metal and marble are spliced presented a structural challenge. To achieve a perfect fit, the marble was sanded repeatedly to match and fit in the curved metal surface.
연구: To have a deeper understanding of Chinese folding fans, designer Bryce Cai made a special visit to the Fan Museum in Hangzhou. By studying the museum collections on tour with educators, he absorbed information about the folding fans’ basic structure, its 3000-year history, and its long-lasting influence on traditional Chinese culture. In ancient China, words in homophony and fortune were often associated. "Shan", simultaneously represented goodness and the object itself. Fans were often gifted to friends as tokens of appreciation and mascots. Although with time, the folding fan has gradually faded from the daily lives of people, Bryce Cai has found a poetic way to present the fan in another form in our homes, both as a tribute to traditional culture and a reminder of kindness.
영감: Fan Table is inspired by Chinese fans. In ancient times, it was often given as a gift to friends because of its homophony with Shan（which stands for kindness in Chinese). It also has the meaning of advancing and retreating freely and at ease.
프로젝트 기간: The project started in March 2020 and finished in June 2020 in Guangzhou, and was exhibited in Shanghai in July 2020. This exhibition “COEXIST” lasted for 3 months.
운영 흐름: The special semicircle in the center of the coffee table can freely place flowers and small ornaments.
