About Longdong Gaisrinė

Unique Properties
The project is a new standardized fire station with a concentrated layout. By fusing trapezoidal plane into trapezoidal land, it shapes a sharp, sculptural building form.
The north side adjoins Neihuan North Rd faced by the main entrance/exit. Vertical design makes the site almost level with Neihuan North Rd. The site elevation is higher than the municipal road elevation, preventing rainwater from flowing back. The layout meets the requirements of setback line, sun exposure and fire prevention.
Dimensions & Packaging
The level-1 fire station has a gross floor area of 5,062.93sqm. The 3-storey operation building and 7-storey training tower above ground cover a floor area of 3,998.06sqm, while the basement occupies 1,064.87sqm and can park 8 trucks. The coverage rate is 22.4% and the greening rate is 18.7%.

The main building body uses reinforced concrete structure. The foundation adopts independent columns and strip-shaped waterproof bottom plate. The roof is made of beams and reinforced concrete floor slab.

Production Technology
Energy conservation: Low-E glass and thermal mortar are applied to windows and extruded polystyrene board is used on roof.

Water supply and drainage: Low-impact development mode is adopted for rainwater comprehensive utilization system, septic tank and oil separation tank use fiberglass-reinforced plastics, and solar energy and air-source heat pump are used for hot water.

Green building: Roof fruit garden and sunken green land are set to absorb, store and infiltrate rainwater and control runoff.
Design Challenge
Site: Due to the irregular trapezoidal site, the street-facing surface on northeast side isn't long enough for 8 fire trucks to leave. So trucks leave on an inner courtyard-style route.

Layout: The irregular site causes limitations on the layout, as sports field and training space need regular land.

Setback line: The north and east sides are required to set back for 3m and 1.6m respectively, thanks to surrounding conditions, with fire station and sports field reasonably set on the limited land.
Research
The project is based on the research results of "2014 Shenzhen Fire Station Standardization Design Workshop" and the "Shenzhen Fire Station Construction Standards", and responds the quantity demand for fire stations in the city. The project provides reference for Chinese fire station construction, and meets the needs for fire response, duty preparation, training, daily life and leisure. It is open to the public to spread fire culture and promote the future development of firefighting profession.
Inspiration
The project is a level-1 fire station situated in Longdong, Longgang District, Shenzhen, with a plot area of 5,468.3sqm. The site is shaped like a trapezoid, with vegetable field on the east side, waste station on the west side, Neihuan North Road on the north side, and a residential community on the south side. The project occupies a gross floor area of 5,062.93sqm (above ground: 3,998.06sqm, underground: 1,064.87sqm), composed of a 3-storey fire operation building and a 7-storey training tower.
Project Duration
Started in September,2017 and finished in October, 2019
Located in Longgang District, Shenzhen
Operation Flow
The fire station has a concentrated layout. Fire trucks leave on an inner courtyard-style route. The white sculptural building form shows firefighters' power and keenness. Fire garage, main entrance, hall and canteen are on 1F, and main entrance faces north side. Duty preparation rooms are on 2F, with bedrooms on south, and lavatory and shower room on north. Operation rooms and auxiliary rooms are on 3F and 4F. Multiple roof gardens are set on the building to enrich the lives of firefighters.
