About Roentgen Tēpu Moenga
Ko Roentgen he tēpu moenga i hangaia mō te ruma moe. Kua hangaia a Roentgen ki te rākau pakari, ā, e rua ngā huinga kāhui, ko ētahi e kitea ana, ko ētahi e huna ana. Ina toia te kāhui papa teka ki waho ka hurihia, ka puta mai ētahi kāhui iti huna e rima. Kua whakaritea hoki ētahi kāhui iti e rua e kitea ana me tētahi kāhui nui kua whakaurua ki roto ngā wāhi whakahiko mō ngā taputapu hiko. Kua whakanohoia tētahi whakahiko waea-kore ki tētahi koki runga. Ka whakamahia ngā whitinga tuku-kōpuku me ngā ara whitawhita mētara. Ko te hoahoa e whakaatu ana ki ngā taonga rāwaho mekanika o te rautau 18, kua whai wāhi huna.

- Unique Properties
- Roentgen nightstand involves the owner in the process of unlatching and expanding it outward into the room, a sequence of new spatial conditions that offers additional useful storage space and protection for personal belongings. It has a set of hidden drawers that can be accessed by pulling outward visible section of drawers and turning it left/right (according to configuration). The design is simple and can be performed in a wide range of color and material combinations.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- Width 400 mm x Depth 480 mm x Height 480 mm
- Tags
- nightstand, bedside table, bedroom, storage, drawers
- Production Technology
- Material used is solid wood. Available in custom type of wood and finish. Push to open technology for drawers.
- Design Challenge
- The challenge was to integrate the idea of having a secret set of drawers in the modern nightstand, but at the same time not to create a massive piece of furniture as it was in the 18th century, and to make a construction stable when it expands outward.
- Research
- The project is a result of research on works of 18th century cabinetmakers adapted in terms of current trends and needs in the field of furniture production, technologies, and design.
- Inspiration
- The inspiration came from the works of David Roentgen, German cabinetmaker whose design innovation in the creation of ingenious pieces of mechanical furniture with secret drawers and compartments operated by hidden springs and levers made him renowned throughout the ruling houses of 18th century Europe.
- Project Duration
- The concept was developed and visualized in January 2020 in Miami.
- Operation Flow
- The nightstand has 2 sets of drawers - visible and hidden. If a fake bottom drawer is pulled outward, the hidden set of drawers will appear. Thus, it has 1 large drawer with built in recharges for electronic devices, 2 visible small drawers, and 5 hidden small drawers. So, personal belongings can be stored out of sight, keeping the home tidy and organized. All the drawers are lined and the quality metal runners ensure they run smoothly. There is a wireless charger in the upper right/left corner (according to configuration).
