- This lounge chair redefines material applications by integrating armored glass—a material traditionally used in security industries—into furniture design. Featuring a comfortable seat with back support, it is framed by two transparent armored glass sides that serve as armrests, providing both strength and elegance. Mounted on a rotating base, the chair merges durability with fluid motion. This innovative use of industrial-grade glass in domestic furniture creates a striking and timeless design.
- Inenga & Pēketanga
- Dimensions: width 900mm x depth 1000mm x height 950mm
- Hangarau Whakanao
- The chair is crafted using a combination of advanced glass lamination techniques and traditional upholstery. The armrests are made of armored glass, produced by bonding multiple layers for strength and durability. The seat structure is built with high-quality materials for comfort and longevity. Precision engineering ensures seamless integration of glass and fabric, resulting in a refined, durable, and visually striking piece of furniture.

- The main challenge was adapting armored glass—traditionally used in security applications—into a functional and comfortable furniture piece. Structurally, balancing strength with ergonomic needs required extensive testing. Sourcing high-quality laminated glass and integrating fabric without compromising durability was another hurdle. Socially, the design reinterprets materials beyond their conventional roles, while production demanded precise craftsmanship and specialized bonding techniques to ensure safety and longevity.
- Rangahau
- The research focused on material innovation and ergonomics in furniture design. The objective was to explore the structural potential of armored glass in seating while ensuring comfort and durability. A combination of material testing, prototyping, and user feedback was used. Strength and flexibility tests were conducted on laminated glass, and ergonomic studies involved trial seating experiences. The findings demonstrated that armored glass could provide both support and aesthetic lightness. This research challenges industry norms, inspiring new applications of glass in furniture and influencing sustainable, long-lasting design solutions.
- Whakaaweawe
- This chair is inspired by a bold exploration of materials and forms, challenging conventional upholstery in home furniture. Drawing from the futuristic and avant-garde aesthetics seen in A Clockwork Orange and 2001: A Space Odyssey, the design embraces clean lines, transparency, and an almost cinematic presence. Extensive research focused on the structural potential of armored glass, leading to its innovative application in a lounge chair. The result is a timeless piece, detached from fleeting trends.
- Roanga o te Kaupapa
- The project started in January 2024 in Guatemala city and finished in April 2024
