I just arrived in this industry and I arrived accidentally. I am a Physical Education teacher, inventor and designer.

Could you please tell us about your experience as a designer, artist, architect or creator?

I just arrived in this industry and I arrived accidentally. I am a Physical Education teacher, inventor and designer. As an inventor I have won the gold medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions Show (2023).

My invention stands out mainly for its design that gives it great multifunctionality.

How did you become a designer?

I am an instinctive, unconventional designer. I don't have design studies. I am an inventor and designer but my profession is a Physical Education teacher.

What are your priorities, technique and style when designing?

For me the basis is simplicity using the concept of less is more, seeking functionality, aesthetics and simplicity in the design, ignoring the superfluous.

Which emotions do you feel when designing?

The design must be dreamed and then transformed into an illusion to reach the final idea that will give rise to the design. When you transfer your idea to the physical prototype and check that everything works, it seems to me to be the most exciting moment, it is the key moment. It fascinates me when new ideas arise during the creative process.

What particular aspects of your background shaped you as a designer?

Illusion, perseverance, creativity and personality. The Argentine car builder and designer Horacio Pagani served as a great inspiration to me. It is my first experience in design, my learning has been self-taught.

What is your growth path? What are your future plans? What is your dream design project?

I really don't know what the future may hold for me. I would like to be remembered as a creative, accessible and practical designer.

What are your advices to designers who are at the beginning of their career?

For me, the basis of success is enthusiasm, perseverance and faith in oneself. The road has not been easy and we must overcome adversity. The best designer is the one who corrects a design the most times, since it means that he never abandons it.

You are truly successful as a designer, what do you suggest to fellow designers, artists and architects?

They must always trust themselves since there will be people who do not trust them, however, it is important to be self-critical with our designs to improve.

What is your day to day look like?

I wake up early, do sports in the morning and later go to school to teach the children. What excites me most about the day is when I come up with a new idea and put it into practice.

How do you keep up with latest design trends? To what extent do design trends matter?

To tell the truth, I don't follow trends, my designs are instinctive and pure. I don't know how to explain it, maybe I have a natural talent for it.

How do you know if a product or project is well designed? How do you define good design?

When a product is simple, aesthetic and functional, adapting to the majority of users, we can say that we are looking at something really good and successful.

How do you decide if your design is ready?

When I see that the design is aesthetic, functional and simple, where nothing clashes. Once I realize that everything is in order, I finish the design. I eliminate superfluous design elements that cause distraction to the eyes.

What is your biggest design work?

My Slide Roller PRO project is a patented multifunctional fitness device with a very special design since it replaces 15 devices and adapts to all ages. The goal was to increase the possibilities of exercising at home with a single device.

Who is your favourite designer?

I don't have a favorite designer but probably the most iconic designer has been the German Dieter Rams since I consider that his 10 principles of good design have inspired many designers. I am quite inspired by Italian fashion designers like Giorgio Armani since they have a sophisticated, sober and elegant style.

Would you tell us a bit about your lifestyle and culture?

I don't have a favorite city. My creative processes are influenced by music, sports and reading. Design should be a facilitating element in people's lives. Design has helped me understand the ergonomics of products, however, it is a field with a lot of room for improvement.

Would you tell us more about your work culture and business philosophy?

I work in the educational system as a Physical Education teacher. It is not difficult to work with me since I respect the work of others.

What are your philanthropic contributions to society as a designer, artist and architect?

Everything that involves helping people seems beneficial to me. I am a new designer and I just came into this world unexpectedly.

What positive experiences you had when you attend the A' Design Award?

The three benefits of participating in these awards would be: prestige, the possibility of establishing relationships and contacts with other winners and expanding your international experience. Awards grant prestige, recognition and quality standards to your work, providing a qualitative leap in your career. It is a huge honor to be able to receive these awards.

What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?

The idea was to create a device with an innovative design with great functionality and beautiful aesthetics. To achieve this, a special design had to be found that allowed multiple grips and that the device could remain both horizontally and vertically.

What has been your main focus in designing this work? Especially what did you want to achieve?

My goal was to achieve a multifunctional, aesthetic and simple design. The intention was to create a device that would adapt to the characteristics of all types of people.

What are your future plans for this award winning design?

I would love to be able to license or sell the patent. My final goal is that the device can be sold on the market since I consider it to be a highly multifunctional device.

How long did it take you to design this particular concept?

One week.

Why did you design this particular concept? Was this design commissioned or did you decide to pursuit an inspiration?

This design arose individually, the inspiration came from looking at my room and seeing numerous fitness equipment. Then, I realized that they took up too much space and that is when the idea came to me of creating a device that could have the same functional characteristics as all of them but synthesizing it in a single device.

Is your design being produced or used by another company, or do you plan to sell or lease the production rights or do you intent to produce your work yourself?

My main idea is to license or sell the patent. At the moment the prototype works perfectly but I have not yet launched the production and marketing of the device. I am taking steps forward to the best of my ability.

What made you design this particular type of work?

I consider that in fitness there are a multitude of devices that have very specific functionalities, so I was inclined to design a device that encompasses many functionalities, that is, not to be an all-in-one device. At the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (2023) the jury spontaneously called it "the Swiss Army knife of sport"

Where there any other designs and/or designers that helped the influence the design of your work?

I did not look specifically at any specific designer, I based my design on the synthesis of different ideas and functionality that I intended to achieve and from there I organized the design.

Who is the target customer for his design?

My potential clients are those people who like to exercise at home or outdoors. Also people who want to recover from injuries or improve their mobility since this device is highly recommended for physiotherapy.

What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?

The variety of shapes of the multi-grips and their arrangement make the device something different and innovative.

How did you come up with the name for this design? What does it mean?

It is divided into 3 words Slide: roll, it is a device that rolls Roller: roller, it is composed of a foam roller and PRO: professional, since it is a device that adapts to basic levels but also to advanced levels thanks to its multifunctionality .

Which design tools did you use when you were working on this project?

A pencil, a sheet of paper and cardboard.

What is the most unique aspect of your design?

The elliptical finish is perhaps the most distinctive element of the device since it allows it to remain standing and facilitates the ergonomic grip of the hands, in addition to the introduction of the hands and feet inside the elliptical hole.

Who did you collaborate with for this design? Did you work with people with technical / specialized skills?

The entire design is mine, then a 3D engineering company helped me to carry out the final prototype, but there was no design change, it was a success from the first moment.

What is the role of technology in this particular design?

At a technological level it has little history, the key to the design is the variety of its shapes and its layout that give it great functionality and ergonomics.

Is your design influenced by data or analytical research in any way? What kind of research did you conduct for making this design?

My design was instinctive, wild I would say. I didn't have any outside influence.

What are some of the challenges you faced during the design/realization of your concept?

My biggest challenge was to make the device functional and able to stand vertically, since that gives it a certain beauty on an aesthetic level.

How did you decide to submit your design to an international design competition?

I received a personalized invitation to present at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions (2023) where I won the gold medal.

What did you learn or how did you improve yourself during the designing of this work?

In the process I learned to have a more complete vision of the world of fitness, inventions and design. There were many things and details that I didn't know and that I had to learn during this process.

Any other things you would like to cover that have not been covered in these questions?

I consider it to be a complete and interesting set of questions.

Slide Roller Pro Mahi Matua: Taputapu Whakapakari Tinana Maha Take · 10 pātai

I noticed that there were no multi-grip devices that could expand the entire body and that could also be dynamic and sliding, allowing for wide ranges of joint movement.

Your innovative approach to combining multiple fitness functionalities into the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness is remarkable - could you walk us through the creative journey that led to this integrated design solution during the pandemic restrictions?

I noticed that there were no multi-grip devices that could expand the entire body and that could also be dynamic and sliding, allowing for wide ranges of joint movement. It was also extremely important that the design be adaptable to all types of people, being ergonomic and easy to use.I started the design on paper and then I tested it with cardboard. After testing it effectively, we moved on to 3D, finishing with the physical prototype.

The Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness features an intriguing multi-grip design with holes for both hands and feet - what inspired this specific ergonomic configuration, and how does it enhance the user experience across different exercise types?

The user's grip experience was a key factor, so multiple grips with different curvatures are possible to facilitate said grips. One aspect that inspired the design was the curved physiognomy of our hands, therefore, I tried to adapt the grips to the physiognomy of the hand.

Given that the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness replaces up to 15 different fitness devices, could you elaborate on the research and development process that enabled you to successfully integrate so many functionalities while maintaining the device's sleek aesthetic appeal?

The user's grip experience was a key factor, so multiple grips with different curvatures are possible to facilitate said grips. One aspect that inspired the design was the curved physiognomy of our hands, therefore, I tried to adapt the grips to the physiognomy of the hand.

The aluminum, foam, and stainless steel construction of the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness seems carefully considered - what factors influenced your material choices, and how do these materials contribute to both durability and user safety?

The choice of materials was essential since it had to combine strength, safety and comfort. The aluminium gives the device strength and safety while the foam rubber is able to withstand the entire body weight, being a comfortable material that will help us enormously in the rehabilitation of injuries and self-massage. It had to combine aesthetics and functionality.

As recognized by the A' Design Award, the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness represents significant innovation in sporting goods design - how did you balance the competing demands of functionality, portability, and aesthetic appeal in the development process?

From my point of view, it is essential to achieve an original, innovative and unique product. This involves great challenges because it must be an object different from the rest and perfectly recognizable, which is why I tried to give it its own style.

The rehabilitation and injury prevention aspects of the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness are particularly noteworthy - could you detail how these therapeutic applications were incorporated into the design process?

The multiple grips allow for full body extension and the holes allow for the insertion of both hands and feet. All of this allows for greater range of motion, which will allow for improved flexibility and facilitate recovery from injuries.

With 20 different grip possibilities in the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness, how did you determine which grip variations to include, and what role did user testing play in finalizing these design elements?

User testing determined that the grips were adequate. It was extremely important not to make mistakes with the length of the grips since they had to adapt to all types of hands and be ergonomic at the same time.

The Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness appears to bridge the gap between home fitness and professional gym equipment - how do you envision this versatile design influencing the future of personal fitness equipment?

I would like it to be an accessible device for everyone. I consider that its movement possibilities are endless thanks to the multiple grips and its design. It is a perfect complement for multiple fitness disciplines since it can integrate different types of training into one. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT IS NOT ON THE MARKET YET

Could you share some unexpected challenges or discoveries you encountered while developing the Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness, and how these insights might shape your approach to future fitness equipment design?

One of the features that impressed me most about the device during testing was its exceptional ergonomics, as it perfectly adapted to the body's shape like a glove. I consider that on an ergonomic and functional level it is something different from what was previously known, and without technological ostentation, simply using creativity. Sometimes the simple is the best.

The Slide Roller Pro Multifunctional Fitness seems particularly relevant in our post-pandemic world - how do you see this design evolving to meet changing fitness needs and preferences in the coming years?

t is a device that can be perfectly adapted to successive developments since it allows the introduction of different elements such as elastic bands. In addition, the fact that it is detachable, portable and easily storable gives it a plus.
