About Fingal Sistema Modulari ta' Uċuħ

Fingal huwa sistema modulari ta' uċuħ għall-interjuri, li tgħaqqad flimkien kisi tal-ħitan, librerija, madumaġġ tal-mogћieżer u postijiet fejn wieħed joqgħod bilqiegħda. Mudell oriġinali mnebbaħ mill-pajsaġġi kostali ta' blat huwa applikat fuq il-ħajt, l-art u l-għamara, sabiex l-ispazju jinqara bħala ħaġa waħda. Il-kisi tal-ħitan huwa magħmul minn injam miżbugħ maqtugħ bil-laser, filwaqt li l-librerija hija magħmula minn folja tal-metall. Il-madumaġġ stampat tal-mogћieżer jista' jitqiegħed b'mod indipendenti, u l-ottomani huma miksija b'drapp stampat diġitalment. Il-partijiet modulari jistgħu jiġu riorganizzati biex jifformaw ħafna varjazzjonijiet ta' mudelli f'interjuri diversi.

Unique Properties
Representing the core meaning of integrated design, Fingal is an original pattern applied on modular surfaces. Set on both the wall and floor, a space turns into a whole. By extruding the furniture form from details of the pattern, in the same way that the bookcase's shelves emerge from the wall, a unification of surfaces and materials is achieved. Preserving the functionality and comfort, it differentiates itself by exposing its guests to the soothing effect of aesthetically considered design.

Production Technology
The wall cladding is made of painted wood cut with laser while the bookcase itself is created from metal sheet. A modular carpet is covering the floor and its printed and patterned carpet tiles can be placed independently. All mobile furniture such as ottomans are upholstered and their fabric is digitally printed with the proposed pattern design. Metal sheet is also used on the sitting furniture legs.
Design Challenge
The creative challenge of the project was to achieve the detailed craftsmanship that needed to be done in order for the design to be fulfilled. As we spent time on the construction details, many of the construction details that came up during the development and realization of the project were solved with inventive solutions.
Research
Having decided the modular identity of the design, we focused on the creative quality of the pattern itself. We visited a lot of seaside natural landscapes in situ and researched various publications in order to remain on topic and, mainly, to know in depth our concept. Consequently, a catalogue comprising the discovered natural patterns was conducted. As we placed emphasis on the ones that were developed on rocky and other stone related environments, we specifically studied the transforming impact of sea water.
Inspiration
Inspired by the force of the sea the design urges on to stress out the balance and masterwork that characterise natural patterns. The form of the furniture pieces and bookcase, as well as the colour tones and materials' quality subtly transfer the bewildered impression of a rocky scenery to the interior.Motivated by the treasure of nature's physical pattern plurality, Fingal redefines the importance of a well considered design in a human made environment enabling people to reconnect with nature.
Project Duration
The project started in December 2019 and was completed in February 2020.
Operation Flow
As the notion of modularity distinguish the design, being able to modify it allows more creativity and limitless views of the pattern on the surfaces. Thus, apart of the original pattern idea, there are plenty of other variations always deriving from the initial inspiration and concept. While the carpet tiles add to the functionality performance, all the other materials complete the clean-cut pattern that unifies all the spatial elements. The Fingal modular surfaces can be applied in diversified interior spaces.
