About Budapest Giftbook Flipbook
Il-Ktieb-Rigal ta' Budapest huwa flipbook li jippreżenta lil Budapest, l-Ungerija, permezz ta' sensiela ta' illustrazzjonijiet. Meta l-paġni jinqalbu malajr, tinħoloq l-illużjoni ta' moviment kontinwu, u b'hekk il-ktieb jaħdem kemm bħala oġġett stampat kif ukoll bħala film qasir. Kull illustrazzjoni tista' tiġi mħarsa wkoll waħedha. Il-ktieb fih 360 paġna u jkejjel 146 bi 107 millimetri. L-arma fuq il-qoxra hija prodotta bl-istampar tal-foil tal-fidda. Ir-riżultat huwa suvenir, sors ta' ispirazzjoni u gwida kompatta għall-belt.

- Unique Properties
- The Budapest Giftbook is a flipbook with series of illustrations about Budapest, Hungary. This book gives the illusion of continuous movement by simulating motion when the pages are flicked rapidly. Take the city from your pocket and flick it through while re-living memories that only such a vibrant place can offer. Budapest Giftbook is a book and a film, a source of inspiration and a minimalist travel guide, a work of art and a souvenir. Graphic identity of the city.
- Dimensions & Packaging

- Production Technology
- The crest (main symbol) on the book cover was produced with silver foil printing.
- Design Challenge
- The most challenging part of the designing process was to test and create motion and editing of the subsequent pictures in a way that seamless animation is presented when flicking through the book, but the pictures can be enjoyed individually, too, by the viewer.
- Research
- For the design the typical symbols of Budapest were studied (e.g. landmarks, architectural elements, cultural artifacts), and for the creation various animation and editing techniques were explored.
- Inspiration
- The design was inspired by all that one loves about Budapest. The atmosphere, the ambient streets, historical buildings and busy squares. The Danube, a river that is international to the core, divides as much as it connects the two individual parts: Buda and Pest. The cultural impressions (landmarks, buildings, cuisine, nightlife and arts) were the main motives during the designing process.
- Project Duration
- The project started in January 2019 and was finished in June 2019 in Budapest.
- Operation Flow
- The design of the book comes to life through interaction with the user, as by his act (i.e. flicking through the pages, something which may be familiar for all from their childhood), the animation and the movements happen. Besides being a nostalgic, interactive gift enjoyable by anyone irrespectively of age, the book also doubles as a practical tour guide. This complex nature granted that after its introduction, the Budapest Giftbook was received with a great success in the social media, as well as by the professional critics.
