About Joaquim Paravent Li Jintwew
Joaquim huwa paravent li jintwew iddisinjat għad-djar u interni oħra. Il-biċċa taħdem bi tliet modi, bħala diviżorju ta' kamra, xkaffa tal-kotba u ġnien vertikali mobbli. Tliet taqsimiet imwaħħla b'ċappetti jinfetħu u jitgeddsu, sabiex il-wisa' jkun jista' jiġi aġġustat biex jaqbel mal-kamra. L-istruttura hija magħmula minn azzar tal-karbonju tubulari b'finitura ta' żebgħa elettrostatika sewda, u l-wieħed u għoxrin xkaffa ovali huma magħmula mill-injam tal-peroba roża. Azzar u injam irkuprati minn djar imwaqqgħa ntużaw biex jillimitaw l-impatt ambjentali. Il-qafas u l-ixkafef saru bl-idejn minn ħaddiema tas-serraturi u mastrudaxxi tal-għamara tas-sengħa.

- Production Technology
- The making of Joaquim involved an artisanal process that prioritized the skilled labor of master locksmiths and cabinetmakers.
Joaquim carries a body in 5/8" tubular metal structure, 1/2" tubular metal beams and flat bar support for fixing the 1 1/2" x 1/8" shelves in galvanized carbon steel with black electrostatic painting (several color options), 21 shelves 18mm thick in an oval format of 250mm x 300mm with a matte PU varnish finish and a round pine base with matte varnish finish and adjustable rubber caps. - Design Challenge
- Besides the overwhelming intelectual process in creating the piece, I aimed at using as few material types as possible in order to engage in the minimum environmental impact possible. The premise was to utilize reusable materials, less abundant, as are the carbon steel from remainders of steel industries, and the pink peroba from demolished manors. Once the materials were decided, we worked on simple features and lines as to minimize the manufacturing time and integrate handicraft art for twisting the steel and giving the wood its final touches.
- Research
- An exploratory research was conducted for existing types of hinges and junctions, stability calculations and most suitable sustainable materials. The aim was to select material options that could provide low impact, short time for production, better value for money and easy access. As result, the carbon steel and pink peroba were selected as the best match for the purpose of the piece. Joaquim relies on countless reviews from users that mostly praise the piece's ability to promote a sense of bringing people close to nature, feature much appreciated when it comes to living in big cities.
- Inspiration
- Joaquim is a tribute to my greatest mentor, Joaquim Tenreiro. Inspired by his work Trelica, I created a bookcase screen to suit any space. The main goal was to create a piece of furniture that could provide users with various options together with connecting people and nature, a pungent trend during pandemic times.
- Project Duration
- The projected started in January 2021 and finished in March 2021 in Sao Paulo/Brazil.
- Operation Flow
- Easiness and practicality were the pillars to this creation, as the goal was to make a bookshelf that allows to easily switch positions and space arrangement. A folding screen was incorporated as an extra functionality, bringing lightness and usability, ultimately integrating nature, brought from outdoors to the inside in the form of a vertical garden. It's 3 pieces unfold and retract, providing customized width amid the stability required. A versatile piece, adapting to environment/usage, performing as a dividing screen, holding decor objects and interacting with vegetation.
