Cosmetea Pop Up is a retail and exhibition shop in Shanghai, China. The 9 square meter space occupies a former steamed bun restaurant on Yuyuan Road, a street with more than 100 years of history. The design combines tea with cosmetics. A dramatic opening on the facade, inspired by the tea pitcher form of the brand logo, extends into a narrow circular tunnel clad in mirrored stainless steel and lit by LED strips. Shelves are inserted into bespoke slots based on mortise and tenon joints. A red wall cabinet provides display and storage.

The wall cabinet that serves display and storage functions is finished with red paint, which echoes the brand's visual identity. The narrow circular tunnel is like a "wormhole" across time and space, enabling people to temporarily escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Project Duration
Location: Shanghai, China
Completion time: the end of 2019
Operation Flow
The designers drew inspiration from the brand's logo, which outlines a tea pitcher. Based on the brand logo's pendulum-like form and symbolic meaning, the design team carved out a dramatic opening on the facade, and extended it to the 9m2 tunnel space, thereby creating an infinite realm within the limited site area.
Research
The project sits on Yuyuan Road, which has a history of more than 100 years and carries the cultural context of Shanghai. The brand selected a former small steamed bun restaurant at a corner of Yuyan Road, and asked Nax Architects to convert it into a pop-up for retailing and exhibition purposes, hoping to create a new venue that caters to the lifestyles of contemporary urban people and convey the genes and values of the brand.
Inspiration
Tea has long served as a carrier. It's good for health and also acts as a medium of socializing -such dual attributes have been given diverse interpretations in the new era, in order to fit into the lifestyles of modern urbanites.
COSMETEA is a tea cosmetics brand, which breaks the conventional definition of beauty and innovatively combines tea materials with its "Tea Beauty Science", to convey modern fashion aesthetics derived from Oriental naturalism.
