Production Technology
Livia was developed using AI technologies, including natural language processing, memory systems, and emotion recognition algorithms. The design process prioritized user-centric methodologies, incorporating iterative testing and feedback loops to refine its intuitive interface. AR functionality leverages real-time spatial mapping to create immersive interactions, while seamless integration across devices, including smartwatches, ensures a cohesive and accessible user experience.
Design Challenge
The biggest challenge was making Livia feel truly "alive" by combining emotional intelligence with proactive engagement. We struggled to balance advanced AI features like memory recall, mood tracking, and AR with accessibility. External factors like ensuring data privacy and seamless multi-device integration added complexity. Overcoming these challenges required iterative design, real-world user feedback, and innovative use of emotion-driven technology to build a lifelike, empathetic companion.
Project Duration
The project started in May 2024 in California, US.
Operation Flow
Livia operates through simple, user friendly interactions. Users can call, text, or use AR mode to engage with Livia, who responds with empathy and memory-driven insights. Key features include mood tracking, proactive checkins, and personalized journaling. AR brings Livia into the user's space for lifelike interactions, while smartwatch integration ensures constant support. This seamless flow fosters meaningful connections, making Livia a companion that feels truly alive and attentive.
Research
We conducted user-centric research to address loneliness and enhance digital companionship. Using surveys, interviews, and usability tests with diverse participants, we identified a need for proactive engagement and emotional personalization. Insights shaped Livia's AR interactions, memory systems, and mood tracking, creating a lifelike, accessible companion. The research impacts society by tackling loneliness and design by redefining standards for AI-driven emotional support.
Inspiration
Livia was designed to address global loneliness and the barriers to mental health support, with nearly one in four people worldwide experiencing loneliness. Stigma, high costs, and limited access leave many without help. Livia offers a personalized, always-accessible companion that uses memory systems and mood tracking to build meaningful connections. It provides a safe, judgment-free space for users to process emotions and feel understood, ensuring tailored, and readily available support.
