Moon Spills is a residential interior design created by merging two separate apartment units. The interior spans about 382.4 square meters and includes three bedrooms and three bathrooms. A curved ceiling in the living area softens a large structural beam and column. At the entrance, a round light inspired by a skylight recalls the moon and casts shifting shadows. Hidden doors are aligned with the television wall to create a clean entry. The palette combines beige, walnut wood and white with subtle rose gold, while brushed wood veneer, architectural concrete and metal add texture.

- Unique Properties
- The project highlights the interplay of curves and light, especially in the ceiling design. A large structural beam in the living area was transformed into a feature by incorporating an arched ceiling that flows like dusk sky hues, reducing visual heaviness. The entryway extends this design with a moonlike skylight-inspired light casting shifting shadows. The curved forms reflect the 'round heavens and square earth' philosophy, balancing structure and serenity, offering returning residents a poetic sense of warmth, peace, and homecoming.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- The interior spans about 382.4 square meters with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. During renovation, the layout was strategically reconfigured for better functionality. Architectural constraints prevented the removal of partition walls, so the designer optimized circulation to ensure a seamless spatial flow across the merged units. At the entryway, two addresses were unified using a hidden door, creating a cleaner look. A hidden door also conceals the children's room, enhancing visual and functional continuity.

- Production Technology
- This project features a soft, neutral palette of beige, walnut wood, and white, accented with subtle rose gold for a minimalist yet refined modern look. Materials such as brushed wood veneer, architectural concrete, and metal add depth and texture. Warm-toned honeycomb shades complement the wood elements, creating a cozy, serene ambiance. The overall effect is a calm and elegant space that balances visual warmth with contemporary simplicity, offering a peaceful environment for everyday living.
- Design Challenge
- Formed by merging two units, the space faced structural limitations from immovable utility shafts and walls. A major challenge was a large beam and column in the living room, which created strong visual pressure. The designer resolved this by incorporating a curved ceiling design that softens the obstruction while preserving the structure. At the entryway, bedroom doors on both sides disrupted visual flow. Hidden doors were added and aligned with the TV wall to create a clean, cohesive entrance with improved aesthetics and functionality.
- Project Duration
- The project finished in September 2024 in Taiwan.
- Operation Flow
- The homeowner, a tech industry professional, had high standards for both functionality and design. Although the construction was delayed by the pandemic, the final result exceeded expectations, offering a space that is both refined and comfortable. A highlight is the curved ceiling in the living room, which softens the presence of an original beam and column, evoking a luxurious hotel ambiance. The children’s bedroom includes a custom playroom, an engaging, personalized area that quickly became a family favorite.
- Research
- The space merges two residential units, with fixed structural walls that initially posed design challenges. Inspired by the moon, the designer transformed these constraints into a poetic spatial rhythm. Curves throughout the space evoke the passage of time, allowing light and shadow to flow gently. The arched ceiling in the living room symbolizes celestial cycles, while a round light in the dining area echoes the moon motif. A skylight-inspired entry ceiling furthers this theme, creating a calm, ever-shifting ambiance.
- Inspiration
- The designer sought to bring the spiritual essence of the moon indoors, using soft lighting and curves to evoke the calm of nightfall. Uniquely, the site merges two separate residential units, but the central partition wall, an immovable structural constraint, posed a challenge. The space achieves visual and emotional unity through careful spatial planning, material choices, and lighting design. Warm wood tones and gentle shifts in light and shadow create a tranquil rhythm, echoing the quiet elegance of moonlight.
