Scholars Xuntang is a hotel interior created within historic residential buildings in Wuxi, China. The interior covers 5400 square meters and keeps the character of white walls and black tiles. Original structures were protected and reinforced, so traces of time remain visible. Decoration is restrained, allowing the old fabric to be seen. Materials include wood finish, stone, gold brick, glass, wallpaper, paint, linen, silk and malacca rattan. Local silk and linen textiles reflect regional crafts. The design links guests with nature and gives the old buildings new use.
