Threshold is a coffee table composed of interlocking metal planes that achieve stability without additional fasteners. The structure is formed from Cnc processed and precision bent steel components that slide into engineered slots for tool free assembly. Surface options include brushed steel and matte powder coating to ensure durability. The design focuses on proportion, clarity and ease of installation, presenting a composed metal form suited for residential and commercial interiors.

Production Technology
The table is produced using laser cut stainless steel sheets, followed by precision bending and surface finishing. Brushed stainless steel or powder coated matte RAL color options are applied to ensure durability and visual consistency. The interlocking system is engineered to achieve structural rigidity without additional mechanical fasteners.
Design Challenge
The main challenge was achieving structural rigidity without visible fasteners. Balancing material thickness bending tolerances and slot precision required multiple iterations. Production limitations such as metal flexibility and finishing consistency were carefully evaluated. The outcome resolves aesthetic clarity and engineering logic within a minimal form.
Project Duration
The project started in February 2026 in Istanbul and was completed in February 2026 in Istanbul. The design was developed as a producible furniture piece under Studio Soldout.
Operation Flow
Threshold is assembled by sliding the metal planes into each other through pre engineered slots. The interlocking geometry secures the structure without screws or additional tools. The interaction is intuitive and guided by the form itself. Once assembled, the table provides a stable surface while maintaining a visually lightweight appearance.
Research
Type of Research Product design research. Research Objectives To explore structural stability through interlocking metal planes. Methodology Iterative prototyping and digital modeling. Data Collection and Research Tools Used CAD modeling structural tests and material studies. Participants Physical prototypes and load experiments. Results A stable tool free assembly system. Insights and Impacts The research demonstrates how minimal material intervention can generate durable and visually calm furniture solutions for contemporary interiors.
Inspiration
Threshold was inspired by the concept of structural balance and the moment of transition between two planes. Influenced by earlier explorations of surface tension and geometric clarity, the design seeks to express stability through minimal intervention. The project investigates how interlocking components can create a calm architectural presence while maintaining simplicity and ease of assembly.
