Production Technology
Currently at the concept stage, Vitro Mobile EV was developed through surfacing 3D modeling, visualization, and simulation techniques. These digital tools enabled precise design exploration, allowing detailed adjustments to the suspension and chassis for optimal functionality and user experience. Through 3D simulations, the design's adaptability and usability were tested virtually, ensuring a strong foundation for future physical prototyping and production refinement.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge in developing Vitro Mobile EV was determining the ideal vehicle size to best suit household moving needs. Balancing spaciousness for storage with maneuverability required extensive research and testing. This process was further complicated by the need to meet user expectations of ease and efficiency within residential spaces. Overcoming this involved analyzing user data, studying current EV standards, and exploring innovative design solutions to achieve an optimal balance.
Project Duration
The project started in January 2021 in California, finished the concept in April 2021, and continuing the development.
Operation Flow
Vitro Mobile EV operates autonomously and is charged at a central dispatch center also features solar panels on the top for more clean energy options. Users can summon the vehicle through an app by entering their location, destination, number of items to move, and preferred time. Once the vehicle arrives, it can be controlled via a touch screen on its side, allowing for easy interaction. This streamlined process makes moving effortless and efficient, offering a seamless experience for users.
Research
The research focused on improving the moving experience, including understanding user challenges in current moving services and assessing the potential of autonomous EV technology to simplify this process. Results highlighted pain points in traditional moving, such as accessibility and physical effort, and identified an interest in automated solutions. The insights positioned it as a solution that enhances the moving experience while addressing sustainability and automation.
Inspiration
The inspiration for Vitro Mobile EV stems from the elegance of low-profile cars and the historical functionality of the sedan chair. Combining these two influences, the project aims to create a modern, automated solution that merges sleek, adaptable design with efficient transport. The low-profile car's chassis inspired the suspension system, while the concept of leveless, human-centered loading seen in sedan chairs drove the vision for a seamless, user-friendly experience.
