Chia Min Ho - La Dolce Vita Design · CLIENT: La Dolce Vita

Designed as a 100 square meter retreat for a senior executive in the technology industry, this residence serves as a temporary home for quality time with family away from the pressures of city life. Matte artistic coatings are applied throughout, with reflective surfaces deliberately minimized to reduce visual stimulation. Open living and dining areas nurture connection, while private rooms cradle rest. Warm layered lighting and gentle textures deepen the sense of refuge, creating a space for true relaxation and quiet self dialogue amid a fast paced world.

Unique Properties
The client, a high pressure tech professional, sought a serene secondary home to escape urban stress. This 100 square meter retreat balances family interaction with personal comfort. A restrained material palette and minimized reflections soften the visual field and reduce noise. The open living and dining plan encourages connection, while secluded sleeping areas ensure deep rest. This home is designed as a sensory refuge, inviting reconnection, mindfulness and slow living.

Production Technology
To create a lighter and more efficient lifestyle, we developed the Emotion First smart home system. Based on user observation, it integrates HVAC and lighting, with motion sensor corridor lights adding both function and mood. Night mode shifts to warm light, hearth-like mist, and optimal sleep temperature, cutting energy use by 15 percent. The study merges a bookshelf and folding bed to maximize space and keep flexibility for overnight guests.
Design Challenge
The challenge lay in shaping openness and flow within a compact footprint while deliberately avoiding reflective materials. The design aspired to evoke the ease of a private villa retreat, where calm and intimacy intertwine. Deep hues and matte textures were layered to convey quiet strength, while proportion and scale were finely tuned to transform potential heaviness into a cocoon-like sense of refuge, free from oppression yet rich in serenity.
Project Duration
The project started in April 2024 and finished in August 2025 in Taichung.
Operation Flow
This home is designed to guide you through a calm journey. As you walk in, soft colors and matte textures quiet your mind. Natural wood and earthy plaster make you feel close to nature. Lights change gently as you move, like stars slowly lighting up the night sky. The bedroom wraps you in soft apricot and gray, helping you slow down and rest.
More than just a place to live, it's a peaceful sanctuary that nourishes the body and allows the senses to rest. We approach design as a quiet art, using a minimalist aesthetic to let the spirit breathe.
Research
Stepping into this home feels as if time slows down. We began by observing daily life and conducting in-depth interviews, combining qualitative research to explore how materials, light, and form affect emotions. Matte, natural finishes were chosen to avoid glare, while warm lighting, a glowing hearth, and mist create a serene atmosphere. The design encourages mindfulness, reduces the need for frequent renovations, and turns the home into a sustainable refuge for body and mind.
Inspiration
Architecture holds life and a home preserves intimacy. Soft hues and matte textures quiet the senses, while earthy tones and minimalist design create warmth and calm. Inspired by Lao Tzu's wisdom, natural materials evoke the stillness of a forest, and soft lighting lets silence speak. As one moves through the space, light blooms like stardust. In the bedroom, beige apricot walls and muted grays cradle the mind, and a pendant light gently leads into restful sleep.
