White is a residential interior design for a home of 238 square meters in Taichung City, Taiwan. The scheme uses a pure white palette, soft curves and natural materials. Arcs in the sofa back, the television wall and the ceiling guide movement and conceal the main bedroom entrance. Mineral paint with low formaldehyde content and white stone with wavy patterns add texture. Indirect lighting at 3000 kelvin creates a warm atmosphere. The layout balances shared areas with private zones, supporting calm and comfortable daily living.

Production Technology
The design for this residence prioritizes creating a harmonious blend of functionality and conceptual depth. We employed a user centric design methodology, focusing on the needs of the university student residents for simplicity and comfort.

Key Techniques & Materials:
Curved Forms: The extensive use of arcs (sofa back, TV wall, ceiling) was crucial. This was not merely aesthetic; it served practical purposes like concealing the main bedroom entrance and guiding views. We meticulously planned these curves for flow and visual softness.
Minimalist Palette: Adhering to the simple client brief, we opted for a limited material and color scheme.
Mineral Paint: Selected for its environmental benefits (low formaldehyde) and subtle, tactile texture, moving beyond plain white.
Modern White Stone : Used consistently throughout the space, this natural stone with its wavy patterns was chosen to introduce organic elements, conceptualized as urban parks within the home.
Conceptual Urban Landscape: This abstract idea drove specific design choices. We intentionally varied cabinet heights and volumes to mimic city architecture. The blue art symbolizes the sky, white elements represent buildings and the stone, green spaces. This layering of meaning enriches the minimalist aesthetic.
Indirect Lighting: Extensive use of 3000K indirect and recessed lighting creates a warm, inviting atmosphere, crucial for a comfortable student living space.
Our process involved careful consideration of how each element contributes to both the practical functionality and the overarching conceptual narrative of the indoor urban jungle. This allowed us to deliver a design that is not only aesthetically pleasing and functional but also uniquely immersive.
Design Challenge
The primary challenge was preserving a sense of purity within the 238 sqm layout while addressing the varied needs of a family of three. A white based palette demands flawless execution; material selection and lighting had to be meticulously tested to avoid a flat or sterile effect. Another key challenge was realizing the seamless curves throughout the space, requiring high-precision craftsmanship and on-site bending adjustments. Balancing design intention with construction feasibility became a defining aspect of the project character and creativity.

Operation Flow
The project emphasizes natural interaction between space and its occupants. Curved circulation paths guide users gently through the environment, from the entrance to the living and dining areas, then toward the private zones. The layout balances connection and privacy, allowing each family member to enjoy individual space while engaging in shared moments in the common areas. The interplay of lighting and material shifts offers varied sensory experiences throughout the day, cultivating a warm and emotionally resonant daily rhythm.
Research
The design process began with indepth interviews with the homeowners to understand their preference for minimalist living and material safety. We studied how each family member interacts within the space, particularly the transition between communal and private areas. Multiple layout simulations were conducted based on the 238 sqm site conditions to optimize circulation and natural lighting. The selection of mineral based coatings and low formaldehyde, fire-resistant materials was based on product testing and case analysis to ensure a healthy, durable, and visually coherent environment.
Inspiration
Inspiration and motives revolve around creating a dynamic, simple, and comfortable living space for university students, while also incorporating conceptual elements related to urban landscapes.
