Over About Furniture Boek

Er bestaat veel literatuur over meubilair in Kroatië, maar een groot deel daarvan is gericht op een professioneel publiek. Met het boek Over meubels was het de bedoeling om een alomvattend handboek te creëren dat zowel voor studenten als experts een waardevol hulpmiddel zou kunnen zijn. Dit handboek biedt fundamentele, maar relevante informatie over de geschiedenis, categorisering en prominente ontwerpers van meubilair, waardoor het een vaak geraadpleegd hulpmiddel wordt voor diegenen die op zoek zijn naar een fundamenteel begrip van het onderwerp. Alle tekeningen zijn met de hand gemaakt door Diana Sokolic.

The book has four chapters: history of furniture, furniture in Croatia from 1945 till today, iconic world furniture designs and their authors, vocabulary of forgotten furniture names and a glossary of art history terms. Productietechnologie: There were more than 300 drawings made by professional artist Diana Sokolic, but only 140 are used in the book in order to make it simple, short, and informative. Huge research was undertaken to present basic and relevant information about characteristics of the furniture history styles, authors and their works.
Ontwerpuitdaging: Finding relevant information about women designers was the most challenging part of the research. Their work and lives are hidden under the names of factories or architects and their studios, especially in Croatia, where educated women designers worked for a monthly pay designing brilliant pieces under the name of the factory they worked for.
Onderzoek: Researching for the book was long and it took over 7 months since the goal was to give the most important information about the history of furniture and most relevant authors, especially highlighting the work of female authors who were working in big corporations or studios, anonymously until today.
Inspiratie: There are many books about furniture in Croatia, but most of them are written for professional use. The idea was to fill the gap by making a handbook with the basic information, a book for students as well as scholars; the book that will be used often to get the first but relevant information about the history, types, or authors of furniture.
Projectduur: This project started in Zagreb, Croatia, during Covid-19 lockdown time - the ideal time for studying and writing the book in peace. It was finished the same year, but, due to import and printing problems caused by Covid-19 and the war in Ukraine - publishing was delayed until the end of 2022.
The book was published with the support of the Croatian Ministry of Culture.
