About Luminous Lingnan Primær funksjon: Oppslukende kunstinstallasjon

- Unique Properties
- The work reinterprets the historic Manchurian "flower window," a hallmark of Lingnan architecture celebrated for its vibrant colored glass designs introduced to China during the Qing dynasty. Renowned for its fusion of Chinese and Western aesthetics, the flower window became a cultural symbol of Guangzhou and a testament to centuries of artistic exchange. This installation translates that heritage through contemporary digital art technologies, merging the visual language of traditional ink painting and wild cursive Chinese calligraphy with an immersive, interactive installation experience.
- Dimensions & Packaging
- This immersive art installation measures 3.2m x 3.2m x 3.63m and features digital video art displayed on an LED panel, with reflective surfaces lining the walls, ceiling, and floor.

- Production Technology
- This work begins with hand painted ink artworks and calligraphy on rice-paper. These physical pieces are then digitized using a high-resolution scanner. The scanned images are transformed into dynamic, generative video art, ultimately culminating in an immersive fine art installation.
- Design Challenge
- Transforming classical and contemporary ink painting and calligraphy into postmodern installation art poses significant creative and technical challenges. The video component further operates as an immersive installation, adding additional layers of complexity and innovation to this artistic and research project.
- Research
- The work employs generative digital art imagery, mirrored environments, and multi-sensory elements of music, light, and motion to create an ever shifting visual field reminiscent of quantum particles. As viewers move through the installation, evolving ink textures and calligraphic forms expressed through geometric abstraction evoke moments of reflection and heightened perception. The work explores themes of humanity, cosmology, and the interplay between tradition, innovation, nature, and technology.
- Inspiration
- The inspiration for this work originates from the Manchurian window, also known as the "flower window," a distinctive feature of traditional Lingnan architecture. Through the interplay of cut glass and shifting light, these windows produced shimmering, dreamlike visual effects. These radiant windows stand not only as traces of history but also as enduring witnesses to cultural exchange and integration between China and the West.
- Project Duration
- The project began in September 2025 in Guangdong and was completed in December 2025 in Beijing, and it was exhibited in The 10th Beijing International Art Biennale in 2025 and Epochal Echo of Ink: Contemporary Interpretations of Chinese Aesthetic Across Time, curated by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design, at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen, China, 2026.
- Operation Flow
- As visitors move through the installation space, they engage with evolving ink textures and calligraphic strokes, creating an immersive, ever changing cosmic experience.
