La concepcion se basa sus la conta tradicionala chinesa Cao Chong Pesa l'Elefant, ont s'utiliza la substitucion egala per mesurar un grand objècte amb fòrça objèctes pichons. Cada pichon pes d'elefant es marcat amb sa massa, de 5 grams a 100 grams. Un objècte es plaçat dins la barca, lo nivèl d'enfonsament es marcat, e s'apondon de pes fins que la coca tòrne a aquel nivèl.
