X Modular Lamp este un sistem de iluminat reconfigurabil pentru spații rezidențiale și comerciale. Designul este centrat pe un mecanism de articulație în X, cu două cadre rotative în formă de X. Utilizatorii ajustează cadrele manual pentru a schimba direcția luminii și forma sculpturală. Lampa poate fi combinată cu alte module, suspendată de tavan sau așezată pe o suprafață. Fiecare modul se pliază complet pentru un transport și o depozitare compacte. Structura este realizată din aliaj de aluminiu, iar difuzorul este realizat din acril. Conectorii magnetici permit asamblarea fără unelte.

It supports diverse configurations—from combined installations to ceiling-hung or surface placement—and fully collapses into a flat-pack state. This enables efficient, sustainable transport and storage, making it adaptable across various residential and commercial spaces.

Tehnologie de Producție: The production of the X Modular Lamp relies on precision metalworking and assembly techniques. The main structure is formed from aluminum alloy profiles using CNC machining to ensure the accuracy and strength of the X-shaped frames. The core rotating damping hinge is achieved through high-precision die-casting and a custom spring system, enabling smooth and stable angle adjustment. The surface finish employs environmentally friendly anodizing or electrostatic powder coating processes, balancing durability with texture. Electrical connections between components utilize concealed magnetic contacts and standardized cables, allowing for safe and quick tool-free assembly. The overall design adheres to DFA (Design for Assembly) principles, enabling complex functionality to be realized through a streamlined and efficient industrial process.
Provocare de Design: The most challenging aspect was translating the complex mechanical concept of a "dynamic light-shadow device" into a reliable, cost-effective, and mass-producible product. This required balancing aesthetic minimalism, a smooth manual rotation feel, and structural durability. We overcame this through extensive prototyping, ultimately developing a composite central axle with precision springs and custom grease. Externally, stringent cost and manufacturing constraints for the high-precision hinge were addressed by collaborating closely with suppliers to optimize mold design and assembly processes, achieving the desired performance with standardized components.
Cercetare: Our applied design research, combining user observation and prototype testing with designers and end-users, revealed a core need for lighting that adapts to multiple scenarios and simplifies logistics. These insights directly led to the X Lamp's defining features: its transformable X-hinge for flexible use and its flat-pack design for efficient shipping and storage.
Inspirație: The X Modular Lamp is inspired by the folding mechanism of the traditional Chinese "Mazha" stool. Its core X-hinge structure allows the two light frames to rotate and adjust freely, enabling dynamic lighting control while remaining fully collapsible for flat-pack transport.
Durata Proiectului: The project was initiated and completed in 2024, and was exhibited at the Guangzhou Design Exhibition in 2025.
Flux Operațional: The user manually rotates the two intersecting "X" frames to freely adjust the light angle and transform the lamp's configuration.
