Production Technology
Converting three bedrooms into two plus a walk-in closet expanded the public area. A new circular loop replaces dark corridors, introducing natural light. A large central island integrates appliances and storage, solving workspace shortages and preventing visual fragmentation. High CRI LED lighting ensures art is displayed optimally.
Design Challenge
The main challenge was using marble to create luxury without the cold feeling of high end hotels. The client wanted a premium atmosphere but disliked the distant feel of stone heavy spaces. Therefore, the designer avoided using stone as a flashy centerpiece. Instead, the design focuses on layering textures by mixing marble with other materials. By pairing warm walnut wood with warm grey marble at the central island, the project successfully balances luxury with comfort.
Research
The research integrates gallery traits into a private residence, balancing professional display with warmth. Strategies include: 1. Circular Circulation, replacing dead-end corridors to boost openness. 2. Spatial Plasticity, utilizing modular systems for adaptability to varying artwork sizes. 3. Lighting Control, employing high CRI (over 90) fixtures adjusted to a warm 3000K color temperature.
Inspiration
Inspired by the client's large collection and a flawed original layout. The existing three-bedroom space suffered from a dark corridor, poor storage, and felt crowded for hosting. To resolve this, the "Living Gallery" concept was introduced. It brings the open, fluid, and exhibition-oriented qualities of an art gallery into a boutique home.
Project Duration
The project started in May 2025 in Taipei and finished in October 2025 in Taipei.
Operation Flow
Prioritizing flexibility, the living room uses long-span shelves with metal cylinders for clean displays. The master bedroom features a modular Danish wall system for easily movable shelving. The dining wall includes embedded tracks for posters, while the integrated island and table serve as a multipurpose hub for socializing and work.
