About Doaba Dhaba Trajnostna embalaža za hrano

Doaba Dhaba je trajnostni sistem embalaže za hrano, zasnovan za oblačno kuhinjo (cloud kitchen) v Indiji. Glavne jedi so pakirane v handijih, glinenih posodah, ki jih ročno izdelujejo lokalni obrtniki, zaprtih z glinenim pokrovom in etiketo, privezano okoli vratu posode. Ploščati kruhi, kot sta roti in naan, so zaviti v sveže odrezane bananine liste, povezane z jutovo nitjo. Oba izdelka nato položijo v vrečko iz recikliranega papirja. Materiali so biorazgradljivi in nadomeščajo plastiko za enkratno uporabo. Dostave potekajo z električnimi vozili, kar zmanjšuje ogljični odtis.

Unique Properties
The brand Identity and packaging of Doaba Dhaba is designed keeping in mind their values of authenticity and sustainability. The identity reflects the rustic and organic feel of the brand. The main dishes are packed in Handis (clay pots), handcrafted by local artisans. The rotis and naans (flat breads) are packed in banana leaves held together by jute threads. These go into a bag made of recycled paper. Finally, Electric Vehicles are used to deliver the food, to minimise carbon footprint.

Design Challenge
There were two major challenges during the design process.
The first being reducing the production cost of the packaging as the pots are handcrafted. This was resolved by connecting with the right vendor and increasing the production quantity.
The second challenge was to make sure that the pots don't break during transit. This was resolved by training the delivery boys and including a thicker foam padding inside their delivery bags.
Research
Detailed ethnographic research was conducted to understand the local culture and food. An in-depth study of one-time-use plastic in food delivery packaging was done to find alternative packaging solutions.
I came towards the solution after studying the old Indian practice of serving food in clay pots and banana leaves which are still used in some parts of the country. These are completely bio-degradable and completely safe for serving food.
Inspiration
The brand identity of Doaba Dhaba was inspired from it very unique packaging style. The packaging style of using clay pots and banana leaves was used in the cloud kitchen delivery system for the very first time during this project.
Project Duration
The Project started in February 2021 and finished in April 2021 in India.
The brand was launched in April 2021
Operation Flow
The dish is transferred in the clay pots which is then covered with butter paper and is closed using a clay top along with a label tied around its neck which specifies the dish and the curry. The roti/Naan breads are wrapped in freshly cut banana leaf which is then tied with a jute thread and a tag that specifies the type of bread. both of these thing go inside a recycled paper bag ready to be delivered.
