As a leading architect in charge of a department in one of top ten design and research institutes of China, he is making his effort to revive this bloated institution, once as a heritage of central planned economy. The competition of market in nowadays China demands that designers should have the capabilities of starting to work anytime even if unprepared, and this means one needs insight and courage to get along well with design projects. In developing countries, the work environment is much more complicated. In one day, one architect moves from the design of airport, and museum to the study of water-proof rolling materials on roof, and at night he or she begins to discuss with the client about legal terms in contract. This is what he enjoys, and to put in his words, a mode of swift change of thinking ways, the growing expertise, and the mark of himself on urban growth of contemporary China.
