About Self Help Graphics and Art Bản sắc Thương hiệu

Self Help Graphics and Art là một dự án tái định vị thương hiệu cho một trung tâm nghệ thuật cộng đồng ở Đông Los Angeles. Bản sắc mới phản ánh giá trị, sứ mệnh và lịch sử của trung tâm, vốn được hình thành từ bản sắc văn hóa và tinh thần đấu tranh chính trị của các nghệ sĩ Chicana, Chicano và Latinx. Cấu trúc lưới của các chữ tượng hình Aztec và Maya đã truyền cảm hứng cho một phông chữ hiển thị (display typeface) và logotype tùy chỉnh. Logotype được cắt laser trên gỗ MDF và in typo (letterpress) để tạo hiệu ứng bề mặt. Các áp phích được in lụa (screen printed) nhằm tôn vinh lịch sử in ấn của trung tâm.

Unique Properties: The goal was to provide Self Help Graphics & Art with an identity that embraces the community arts center’s value, mission, and history in East Los Angeles. Self Help Graphics and Art started in the context of the cultural identity and political empowerment of Chicana/o and Latinx artist.
Dimensions & Packaging: Poster size 28"x 40" inches
Newspaper booklet 11.378" x 14.9606" inches.
Screen printed, laser cut and letterpress.

Production Technology: The custom logotype and typeface was laser cut on mdf wood and letterpress to achieve texture. All poster were screen printed on 28"x 40" inch Rives BFK printmaking paper.
Design Challenge: Self Help Graphics and Art is a community arts center located in East Los Angeles. Formed during the cultural renaissance that accompanied the Chicano Movement, Self Help promotes socially engaging art with a conscience to service the Chicana/o and Latinx community and diverse audiences through artistic freedom and cultural affirmation.
The creative challenge was developing a new identity that also appeals to a more diverse and contemporary audience and communicates the heritage of Self Help Graphics & Art.
Research: Research the history of Self Help Graphics & Art through books and visiting the facility. Went through rounds of explorations and revisions. Book credit- Self Help Graphics and Art: Art in the heart of East Los Angeles by Colin Gunckel.
Inspiration: Inspired by the grid used in the Aztec and Mayan hieroglyphs, the custom display font helps celebrate and revitalize its brand identity to reflect its history. The final logotype and typeface was letterpress and screen printed to achieve texture and pay homage to Self Help Graphics & Art printmaking history.
Project Duration: Project started in April 2018 in Los Angeles, Ca and finished in Dec, 2018.
