About Beyond Gương Cầm Tay

Beyond là một chiếc gương cầm tay lấy cảm hứng từ gương chiếu hậu trên ô tô. Gương chiếu hậu giúp người lái xe nhìn thấy những khu vực vượt ngoài tầm nhìn thông thường, và Beyond mang trên bề mặt gương dòng chữ Bạn còn nhiều hơn những gì bạn thể hiện. Câu nói này mời gọi mọi người suy ngẫm về vẻ đẹp nội tâm vượt xa vẻ bề ngoài. Phần thân gương được làm từ gỗ tần bì với lớp hoàn thiện dạng xà phòng, còn mặt gương là tấm acrylic được tạo hình bằng cắt laser và khắc chữ. Phần lưng bo tròn mang lại cảm giác nhẹ nhàng khi cầm trên tay, và mặt gương được đặt hơi lõm vào bên trong viền gỗ để bảo vệ gương khi đặt úp mặt xuống.

Unique Properties: It is a hand mirror inspired by a wing mirror. Like a phrase on the wing mirror 'Objects in mirror are closer than they appear', a phrase 'You are more than you appear' is marked on the surface of the mirror. It takes people to think about their own beauty inside beyond their appearance. With a generous volume shape on the back, it gives a gentle feeling when they are in hand. The mirror is placed slightly inside so it is protected by a wood rim when it is turned over.

Production Technology: It consists of two parts. The wood part is ashwood with a soap finish and the mirror part is an acrylic mirror with laser cutting and text marking.
Design Challenge: It was challenging to create a simple and concise phrase transition from the original one while keeping its essence. It also took a long journey to find a satisfactory volume shape in both situations when gripped by hand and placed on the table. After all, those challenges allowed me to go further than I expected.
Research: As this hand mirror is linked to the wing mirror of the car, I tried to find the most general characteristic of the wing mirror. Afterward, the shape was refined through the iteration of sketches and model making.
Inspiration: One time I got into a car, a wing mirror caught my eye. It helps the driver to see areas beyond the driver’s peripheral vision. I wondered what if a hand mirror also can reflect beyond our appearance.
Project Duration: The project started in July 2020 and finished in January 2021 in Seoul.
Operation Flow: The ash wood gives natural warmth and lightweight on hand with shock resisting density and hardness.
