About The Swing Chair Ghế Xích Đu

Ghế Xích Đu là một chiếc ghế lấy cảm hứng từ xích đu. Thiết kế này phản ứng với chuyển động của cơ thể và tạo ra sự tương tác linh hoạt cho việc thư giãn và vui chơi. Mặt ghế và tựa lưng có tính linh hoạt và có thể điều chỉnh, nhờ đó chúng thích ứng theo tư thế ngồi và chuyển động ưa thích của người sử dụng. Góc giữa mặt ghế và tựa lưng có thể thay đổi từ 120 đến 133 độ. Cấu trúc ghế có dạng khối lập phương kích thước 61x61x61 centimet. Gỗ sồi được sử dụng cho khung ghế, gỗ dán cho mặt ghế và tựa lưng, còn dây cotton dùng cho các bộ phận đung đưa. Bề mặt thô ráp của dây tạo ra ma sát với gỗ, giúp kiểm soát chuyển động một cách an toàn.

Unique Properties: Inspired by the swing, this chair aims to respond with human body movements and create a dynamic interaction with the users - for them to relax and play. The seat and backrest are flexible and adjustable in a way that they are able to follow users’ preferred sitting positions and their movements while sitting. It also has a minimal structure: seat and backrest supported by a simple frame (61x61x61cm), giving the seat floating and chair lightweight.
Dimensions & Packaging: The chair is in a "perfect cube" structure: 61x61x61cm.

Production Technology: The material here I used Oak wood for the structure, plywood for the seat and backrest, cotton cord for the swing, and rubber screw to connect the backrest.
Design Challenge: The hardest part of this design is to control the level of movement, which is affected by the design as well as the material. Allowing too much movement would cause a user to fall off the chair. The thick cotton cord has rough texture and thus create good friction with the wood, in this way, it allows the seat to still create movements but in a controlled and safe way.
Inspiration: This chair is inspired by the swing. I want to incorporate the playfulness and movement of swing into a chair which is normally considered to have a fixed angle between seat and backrest.
Project Duration: This project is completed in Copenhagen in 2017; the duration of design and production took around 2 months.
Operation Flow: Both the seat and backrest are adjustable based on user's movement. The angle between the seat and backrest could be adjusted from 120 to 133 degree (please see the image above).
