About 365 Sun Lounger
365 is a sun lounger designed for gardens and outdoor use throughout the year. The curved frame and the foldable backrest combine appearance, comfort and protection for the cushions. When the backrest is folded down, the waterproof surface shields the cushions from dust, pollen, bird droppings, rain and snow, so no cleaning is needed before use. The cushions remain ventilated to resist mould. The lounger is made of durable Accoya wood shaped by glue lamination, and needs no painting, winter cover or storage space.

- Unique Properties
- The 365 Sun Lounger is the first piece of garden furniture with cushions that resists the forces of nature and is always ready for use. The curved form of the chair together with the foldable backrest serves three functions combined: aesthetics, comfort and unique protection for the cushions. There is no need for wiping dust, pollen or bird droppings, or snow. All you need to do is to flip the waterproof backrest open and enjoy the dry, clean and soft cushions.

- Production Technology
- The lounger offers a feeling of luxury with perfect ergonomics and comfort. It looks stylish also when not in use and requires no winter covers. The cushions are well ventilated to resist mould also when the back rest is folded down. The lounger is made of sustainable and extremely durable Accoya which lasts decades and requires no painting. Curve form with glue lamination. Minimal production waste. The ecological life cycle footprint is further minimized as there is no need for storage space.
- Project Duration
- Project was started 02/20 in Espoo Finland and finished 02/22.
- Operation Flow
- When the rain stops and the sun start shining. Take a coffee and walk to the garden. Lift up the backrest and sit down to enjoy.
- Research
- Lean Service Creation was used as the base design method. The users problem worth solving was defined based on user insight interviews among end users and interior designers. The design process was prototype heavy. Dozens of protos were made to find the optimal curve for ergonomics and weather shield. As the construction needs to be watertight typical furniture building methods do not apply.
- Inspiration
- The design was inspired by the short Nordic summer: the sunny moments are rare and too precious to be wasted cleaning furniture and carrying cushions back and forth. Why are outdoor furniture designed for decades so that they can’t handle outdoor conditions? As a designer I was tempted to try to show that it’s possible to redesign everything. Not just to change the form factor or ergonomics but to change the way the way the chair is used and the daily value it can provide.

Why do you need to carry cushions, wipe pollen and bird poo? Why? Why can't you just go to your garden and sit down and enjoy the comfort of the lounger? Because they've always been designed like that. Indoor furniture carried outside, not truly for outdoor usage. This has always been something that has annoyed me.
To create a showcase that everything even hundreds of years of design heritage can be re-designed. And to change the way outdoor furniture will be designed in the future.

I'ts taken two years of prototyping, testing, learning and iterating.
We had just finished building our dream house and we needed outdoor furniture to the see front garden. Perfect moment to design and build my own. Of course my wife is still unhappy as the garden is full on unfinished prototypes...

People who really want to enjoy the garden, to show off their friends and to be forerunners also in this sense.
It's the worlds first outdoor furniture that has comfortable cushions that is always read for use. You just fold the water tight backrest and sit down.
In Finland the summer lasts for about 6 weeks. But there are short nice moments 365 days a year. And this chair lets you enjoy them. Even during winter. Hence the 365SunLounger.
