About Archie Barware

Archie is a glassware collection designed for professional hospitality service. The collection includes shot, whiskey, long drink, mug, wine, champagne, martini and cocktail glasses. Archie is inspired by the arch, an architectural form reinterpreted through Art Deco geometry. Repeating arches create a sculptural surface, while balanced proportions keep each glass comfortable to hold. The pieces are pressed from soda lime glass, a process that gives consistent wall thickness, durability and resistance to scratching under intensive use.

Gürok's Archie Barware collection, recipient of recognition in contemporary hospitality design, presents an eloquent meditation on the intersection of functional craft and sculptural artistry within the realm of drinking vessel design. The collection's defining characteristic resides in its distinctive arcade motif, wherein repeating pointed arch forms reminiscent of ecclesiastical or gothic architectural traditions have been translated into the crystalline medium with remarkable precision and coherence across multiple vessel typologies. This formal vocabulary creates visual unity while allowing each piece to fulfill distinct functional purposes, from the expansive bowl of the martini glass suited to cocktails demanding aesthetic presentation, through the footed tumbler appropriate for spirits served neat or on ice, to the generous wine goblet accommodating both the liquid and elaborate garnishes. The designer appears to engage with historical traditions of decorative glassmaking while articulating a distinctly contemporary sensibility through the clarity of execution and restraint of ornamental impulse. The photographic presentation emphasizes the collection's atmospheric potential, situating the vessels within lighting conditions that evoke refined hospitality environments and demonstrate how the faceted surfaces transform ambient illumination into dynamic optical experiences. Technical achievement manifests in the uniformity of the pattern repeat across curved surfaces of varying geometry, suggesting sophisticated manufacturing processes that maintain ornamental consistency while accommodating functional requirements. One might contemplate how these objects mediate between the utilitarian necessity of containing liquid and the ceremonial significance of shared drinking rituals that mark human celebration across cultures and epochs.

Production Technology
Archie is produced from soda lime glass using press machines, a process that ensures consistency, precision, and repeatability in mass production. The controlled forming achieves optimized wall thickness and balance, delivering durability and resistance to scratching, even under intensive professional use. Each piece is engineered to perform reliably across different beverage types, while its structure supports efficient handling and seamless integration into dynamic service routines. The result is a collection that combines industrial strength with refined clarity, elevating functionality into an elegant experience.
Design Challenge
The main challenge in developing the Archie collection was adapting the structural form of the arch into functional glassware suitable for professional use. The team needed to maintain the visual impact of the motif while ensuring comfort, balance, and production efficiency. Another key difficulty was modernizing the Art Deco inspiration so that the collection could harmonize with diverse contemporary interiors and service environments. Finding the right proportions and achieving clean geometry through press glass technology required several design trials and technical adjustments. Internally, the project referenced the historical link between architecture and decoration, while externally it had to meet hospitality standards, sustainability goals, and cost limitations. Close collaboration between design and engineering made it possible to achieve a form that is both distinctive and feasible for mass production.
Project Duration
The project started in February 2024 and completed in October 2024 , and was exhibited in Ambiente in February 2025.
Operation Flow
The design takes its visual strength from the arch motif, a classical element known for rhythm, balance, and elegance. This repeating geometry creates a sculptural identity that captures attention and leaves a lasting impression. Its bold yet refined aesthetics, inspired by the spirit of Art Deco, convey a sense of timeless sophistication, creating a clear must have appeal. Thoughtful proportions ensure the form is not only visually striking but also comfortable and intuitive to hold.
Research
The project aimed to reinterpret a timeless architectural motif into contemporary glassware that merges durability with refined aesthetics. Through research on the structural rhythm and balance of classical arches, the design evolved to express strength and elegance in equal measure. Inspired by the harmony of Art Deco geometry, various proportions and curvatures were explored to achieve the most visually balanced and ergonomic form. The resulting collection, Archie, embodies both decorative sophistication and practical performance, transforming the enduring beauty of architecture into a tactile experience for modern hospitality.
Inspiration
Inspired by the timeless form of the arch, Archie translates architectural rhythm into glass. Its bold geometry and refined symmetry echo the spirit of Art Deco, where structure becomes ornament and function meets elegance.
