About Bay Mega Mansion Exhibition Center

Bay Mega Mansion is an exhibition center on the shore of Jiaozhou Bay in Qingdao. The building covers 2300 square meters and faces the sea to the west. Horizontal lines on the upper level recall the calm sea, while curves on the lower level recall moving waves. Aluminum panels form the cornice of the facade, and glass covers the remaining surfaces. A transparent glass curtain wall wraps the first floor, and a circular water feature at the base creates the effect of floating on water. The interior can later be converted into a sports center.

Bay Mega Mansion Exhibition Center by Tengyuan Design stands as a distinguished exemplar of contemporary architectural practice that thoughtfully negotiates the complex dialogue between built form and natural environment, representing an approach to exhibition architecture that transcends mere functional enclosure to achieve genuine placemaking at the confluence of land and sea. The design demonstrates sophisticated understanding of how horizontal architectural gestures can establish meaningful visual relationships with coastal horizons, employing an extended white roof plane that appears to float above transparent glass volumes while simultaneously grounding the composition through a dynamic curvilinear podium element that suggests organic responsiveness to topographical conditions. The technical accomplishment evident in the seamless integration of rectilinear structural systems with flowing parametric forms reflects contemporary advances in computational design and fabrication technologies, yet the result maintains human warmth and contextual sensitivity rather than cold technological display. One observes particularly successful passages in the landscape architecture that surrounds the building, where sinuous pathways and carefully positioned vegetation create graduated transitions between the architectural intervention and the existing coastal environment, suggesting deep engagement with site-specific conditions and seasonal patterns of use. The chromatic restraint of the predominantly white and gray palette allows the building to function as a luminous presence against the varied natural backdrop while accepting the transformative effects of changing light conditions, as evidenced in this golden-hour documentation where warm sunset illumination suffuses the scene with temporal poetry. The elevated viewing position reveals the comprehensive nature of the design thinking, encompassing not merely the building as isolated object but as integral component within a larger environmental and experiential choreography. Visitors might contemplate how architecture can serve as threshold between realms, inviting passage from the cultivated landscapes of human habitation toward the infinite expanses of sea and sky that have eternally inspired human imagination and aspiration.

Production Technology
Aluminum panels are used for the cornice portion of the facade, and the rest is made of glass. The contrast between the two materials highlights the horizontal lines extending to the sky and the relaxed curves.
The first floor of the building uses a transparent all-glass curtain wall, like a pouring water curtain, reflecting the sky and clouds. Combined with the circular waterscape of the base,it creates the effect of floating on the water.
Project Duration
The project will start design in Qingdao in March 2021, start construction in Qingdao in December 2021, complete in Qingdao in April 2022, and open in Qingdao in April 2022.
Operation Flow
The design of the exhibition center starts from the perspective of refining regional cultural symbols, and uses the theme of "sea" to express the wonderful bloom of the city. The building stands gracefully by the sea, The facade of a landscape, with an open attitude, it has become a new memory of the city and a check-in point for Internet celebrities.
Research
At the early stage of design, it considers the future use function. After the sale is completed, it will be transformed into a sports center at a minimum cost to maximize the efficiency of resource utilization. The first floor is 7.4 meters high,The distance is 15 meters from north to south and 18 meters from east to west, meeting the clear height requirements of the sports center. It can be changed into a half-court basketball and table tennis venue in the later stage.
Inspiration
By the Jiaozhou Bay, between the sky and the sea,the design makes full use of the surrounding landscape resources. Extract elements of horizontal lines and curves from calm seas and churning waves. The horizontal lines on the upper layer represent calmness, which fits with the calm sea and is her gentle side; the powerful curves on the lower layer represent strength, which fits with the turbulent waves, and is her flying side. It echoes the calm sea and the turbulent waves.
